Write Every Day: Day #5

Seems I need the tired kitty icon again today... I actually slept quite well last night and have felt much better on that respect, but I did some Proper Productive Stuff and then some Proper Sociable Stuff and as a result have been utterly drained. More detailed postings will have to wait until tomorrow!

Today's Writing

Once I picked myself off the bed, I spent much of the remaining evening writing my Second Doctor Era manifesto for tardis_library, but in the end I had to ask to move my posting day until tomorrow, because I was getting too tired. I should be able to get it done tomorrow okay, though. Anyway, for the sort of writing that I actually count for this challenge (I could count fannish writing, I just tend to not to...), I just managed a couple of sentences. At least they were for starting another fic for the Genprompt Bingo, this one being gen, too.

Hi there!

I started a new fic in a fandom I haven't written in before, which is fun, and wrote 634 words.

Late check-in for yesterday! And I will now try to write down some words before the end of today as well, will come back tomorrow morning to edit the comment (I feel like I'm constantly in a rush these days.)

[the block of meetings i had is over, had the date, got the grocery shopping done, we cooked bacon cheeseburgers together once we got home and i'm barely behind on the wordcount *gives myself a silver star sticker* the gold star is for when i'm back on top of the laundry ]

[my check in for day 4 is just over 700, and day 5 is just over 1.2k. this chapter is writing itself pleasantly, so far ]

My exam was today, so I've spent a good portion of the afternoon grading handwritten exam essays. I am not nearly as far along as I'd like, but I have tomorrow off as a grading day (and grades aren't due until Monday morning, in any case), so I'm sure I'll get through them all.

Today's writing was, therefore, a break from grading, and since my conscientiousness/work anxiety won't let me enjoy much 'fun' while there's a pile of work to do, I only managed 376 words on the H50 fic. Those words finished up a scene, however, and left me in a very good place to start tomorrow's writing, so I'll take it. :-)

I wrote today! Just a couple of sentences, but I have been having trouble getting going at all, so there's something. Finally got started on an idea I've had for a while.

I edited one old fanfic and posted it to Ao3 and somehow I thought I had way more on Mischief Christmas but I only managed 294 words.

6th: More rewrites on that same ficlet. I over-corrected, so now I'm trying to find a middle ground. *keeps poking it until it works*

I did, in fact, manage to work my way through the issues getting in the way and write out a prompt fill after several false leads and branches that had to be pruned back because they were leading away from what was requested. Call it about 1k, plus the something-k in putting together a new post for the weekly project.

So, I wrote a few alibi sentences, and worked on the nonfiction project. Nothing exciting. I'm hoping to do a bit more tomorrow. We'll see. 8-)

Despite it being another horribly hot day, I had a good writing spree in the evening and wrote 1200 words, a bit for my crazy crossover and a large piece of a blog entry.

I do try to give myself a break from the stuff I don't want to do by doing stuff that I do want to do, but it doesn't always balance out. (This is why I should never, ever, ever play addictive computer games...a lesson I am still learning. *grins*)

Good for managing even that much writing on a grading day, I'd definitely find it tough to manage as much after such work. And finishing a scene is always nice! Glad you have enough time to do the grading, hope you've managed to progress nicely enough so you don't have to stress through the weekend.

Maybe you can check how many sentences you've got when it's finished! It's fun when stories grow totally beyond their original target like that. :-D

That's a very nice amount of writing for one day!

A couple of sentences is a good start! Especially if you're getting started on an idea you've had longer. Good luck keeping up the writing! Even sentence or two a day keeps it in your mind at least and usually makes it easier to start on another day, and again another, etc. :-)

Ahh, the perils and difficulties of editing! I also have trouble finding the middle ground between fixing too much (and thus getting rid of something good / adding something that doesn't belong there / just the wrong style / etc.) and not fixing enough, so I sympathize. Good luck getting it work!

Thankyou! Well, I certainly did some writing today and yesterday. I'm working on a couple of small Sherlock ficlets but also a lot of Endeavour. There's a long Endeavour fic I'm slowly trundling away on; it's that new fandom passion, I've got about a dozen different ideas at once. :D Would be pleased to be part of this, thankyou.
