I think it's for the best they didn't. When they dealt with race in the Rosa Parks episode it felt a bit too heavy handed. People were racist back then, yes, but so long as you kept the status quo no one was going to go out of their way and yell epithets at you.

I like that they're focusing on the adventure because it's much better to ignore it than to portray it badly and take away from the narrative.
