I have loads of unread books on my shelf, too, but that doesn't keep me from borrowing new ones. Partly it's because the books I own have been gathered over, oh, close to 20 years, and not all of them reflect what I want to read right now. I also usually want to check out new authors etc. by borrowing at first, so I won't spend quite so much money and shelf space over books I turn out not to like. Even if I read a fair amount of fanfic, I'm still a voracious book reader as well; if I read under 50 books a year, it's a slow reading year for me. Nowadays I at least read some e-books as well, but partly it just serves to give me access to books I couldn't otherwise get or afford, rather than really cut down on the number of physical books significantly. Our library also has e-books, and my e-reader isn't a Kindle (I dislike the idea of being tied to one company only, especially if that one company is the one that's everywhere) but reads epub, so it works all right for me, though I need to contrive a bit to get the DRM-protected books to work for me.
But yeah, too many books is definitely a nicer problem to have than too few books would be!
I'm glad you're enjoying the fest reading, at least! Good luck at getting back to your WIP research, though. But yay for drawer fic and blog entry. :-)
