That sounds frustrating! I think that happens often with big adaptation fandoms. My friend who's into Hamilton but also historical fic about the era has a similar problem, it's hard to tell what's musical-based and what's just plain historical, and often people add the historical tags even into fics clearly just about the musical versions of the characters.
