Write Every Day: Day #29

So yeah, my cold got worse yesterday and I felt entirely miserable the whole day. I keep being impressed by how badly a nasty cold can take me out even without much of a fever, but this one was unusually efficient at the whole make-me-feel-miserable thing. The worst was that my eyes were really, really sore and sensitive, and whenever I strained them a bit, I got a splitting headache. I soon figured out that the computer should be mostly a no-go zone until that bit got better. Hence the extremely brief post yesterday. Eventually I gave up on reading books, too, and just listened to things.

Today I've fortunately been getting better. Still not quite well, and still need to be careful about the computer screen, but definitely better. I've been able to read again, which is certainly a plus. A day passes so much more nicely with one of Gail Carriger's books for company.

Today's writing

I worked on the original idea, writing a couple of pages of a text fragment in my notebook. I'd like to do more later on if I have the energy, but we'll see how it goes.

I have only sporadically been on lj. I've written like every other day including 1500 today, which is pretty awesome. I had been sort of stuck on my NaNo story, but I managed to push through that part and get Skylar down on the (penultimate) planet of the story. Broke her arm. Now she has to haul rocks about for a bit. Poor kid. Not.

I am kind of having a blah week. My YT stories are languishing off in some corner - getting neither hits nor kudos which is kind of sad. One of them is in a fandom that usually gets pretty good attention - but not this year for some reason. Probably Yuri on Ice is eating all the reading! (Have you tried to sort the collection by kudos? When I did it yesterday of the top 20 stores, half of them were Yuri on Ice. Heh. I have NO IDEA even what that is!)

I'm sorry your YT stories aren't getting much attention. I guess it's a bit unpredictable which fandoms get attention which years. I've no idea what Yuri on Ice is either, but I guess a lot of people must know, then. :-P I haven't tried sorting the collection by kudos, but maybe I should have a look. The fandom I wrote in is quite small, not many stories on AO3, but compared to what I can expect, I can luckily be satisfied with the reception my story has had so far. I hope yours eventually gets more attention, too! I ought to get around to commenting more on the stories I've read, but this damn cold cut my archive exploring short.

Oh, it's okay about the YT stories. It's just odd. The two fandoms I wrote in both have a couple of stories and both have got very few people reading them. It's not just my stories. I got very very nice comments from the recips so that's what matters. The rest is gravy.

Sorting the collection by kudos is a particular kind of masochism - at least for me in the past it has been - because I thought I had a story that was doing well. Then I sorted the collection by kudos and discovered just how far down the list it was. This year is different for me. I know the stories are good. I don't need kudos to affirm that for me. It's a good feeling. Not sure when that happened.

Again just a token sentence, I was too miserable to sit at my computer most of the day, or slept anyway. But I'm finally better and can think straight again. Time to worry about that pinch-hit, but at least I'm back to "this is still doable".

Sorry you've still been feeling so awful! Sounds like your bug has been worse than mine, and this was unpleasant enough. But glad to hear you're doing better. Good luck with the pinch hit, sorry it's getting so stressful!
