Fluff fluffety fluff, and linkage and fests and such

A bit of this and that involving stuff currently going on in Dreamwidth communities, fic exchanges/fests etc. Mostly me promoting and linking to things!

historium has a commentfest! Go there to leave prompts for historical fandoms (I need something I can write for!!!) or pick up prompts and write something.



thisbluespirit also has started posting a semi-regular newsletter to the community, so all the more reason to subscribe/join or at least check it out periodically if you're into fandoms that count as historical (historical fiction, historical fantasy/SF/alt-history, fiction that used to be contemporary but is now historical, such as Jane Austen or a billion other things; or historical RPF).

hurtcomfortex assignments went out a few days ago. I'm happy to not have been unmatchable, in either requests or offers! Given that I had to nominate nearly everything I requested or offered, I wasn't sure how well it'd work out! The freeform tag set for the exchange is enormous, so even if you're not participating, you can check out the freeform tags at the bottom of the tag set page if you want to get loads of prompts for hurt/comfort stories. (Content warning that some of the tags do refer to things that may be upsetting.)

Also, the fest has quite a few pinch hits already - I assume it mostly means requests that couldn't be assigned during the match-up - so if you didn't sign up but feel like you'd like to write some hurt/comfort fic for someone anyway, or if you did sign up but feel you could do more than just one, head over to this post and check out the current pinch hits.

who_guestfest, the Doctor Who minor characters ficathon, has sign-ups open now. I'm trying to decide what to sign up for, and get my brain to form some prompts, but basically I've been super much looking forward to this ever since I started watching Classic Who and suddenly had a ton of guest characters I wanted to know more about. I mean, New Who and spin-offs apply just as well, it's just that somehow I've gotten more interested in the minor characters of Classic Who - most likely because the serial format means there was more time to develop the minor characters.

ETA: Knew I'd forget something! Just your periodical reminder that tardis_library is a lovely Whovian fandoms all-mediums reccing community, with themed challenges to prompt the reccing, but also you can rec pretty much anything you like any time as long as you follow the rules and guidelines of the community. The current monthly theme is Seventh Doctor era or romance, and the newly opened seasonal challenge is creating a manifesto. I'm still trying to decide which theme to claim for myself, but I'm definitely going to sign up once I've decided.

Finally, I also signed up for fluffbingo for the second quarter of 2019!
I've no idea why I get something like a page of blank space before the bingo card if I cut and paste the code I was given, but I do need to have it somewhere in a non-code form, so I'm keeping it behind a cut. Might transfer it to a separate entry but I'm tired now, didn't sleep well.

I've found that some bingo cards do that and some don't, and no matter how I poke at the coding I've never been quite able to pin point why! It's very annoying and it must be in the html somewhere! Anyway, good luck with fluff_bingo.

*nods* It does make a difference, even when you watch it first on DVD - I remember, watching the Seventh Doctor era live when I was young how we'd have our hearts in our mouths about whether or not our favourite guests would survive this episode or not, and you'd have them around for three or four weeks, all told (if they did survive). (Alas for our fave Reverend Wainwright in Curse of Fenric, though some of the Greatest Show ones were pretty harsh, too.)

That said, I'm kind of contemplating signing up this year and doing Colonel Godsacre from Empress of Mars, but that might partly be because he was played by an actor I was so pleased to see enter the Whoniverse.

You're welcome, I guess it was a lot of your stuff in the promoting! But it's good stuff that deserves to be promoted! :-D

Oh yeah, I didn't even specifically think of the effect of watching them one episode per week! But even now when they're on DVD, outside of the marathons I don't usually like watching all of a story in one go - it's not made to be watched like that, and I'm not that great at binging TV. So even if I watch the episodes in close succession, I'm likely to spend at least a few days with them, and sometimes may spread it out over weeks. But even if you watch it on one go, four (or more) 25-minute episodes is significantly longer than one 45-minute episode!

I'm probably going to try to sign up for something, I just need to decide what. I've got a couple of prompts from earlier years that I'm eyeing, but I'll also see if something comes up in this year's prompts that I want to try.

I signed up for fluff bingo too - I need to write some comforting things! I think the world could do with a bit of comforting fluff right now.

I agree, the world needs comforting fluff these days! I did already start writing one story, though I'm not far yet. And I feel like thinking about it also increasing the fluffiness of my other writing, which can't be bad either. (And now repeatedly writing the word fluff is filling my head with images of extremely fluffy bunnies. Well, I'm not complaining.)

My DW has trouble fitting all of a picture on so maybe that's linked with the bingo card thing. You could always print screen it and see if that works better?

Hmm, yes, print screen could work, but then I won't be able to link to it as I fill out squares. Though I guess I could just add links underneath or something. I'll think about it, thanks for the idea!
