December 6th, which happens to be the Finnish Independence Day. I'm not a very patriotic person, though of course I appreciate living here, because most things are pretty good in this country. But I don't really get patriotism. Anyway, Finnish ways of celebrating independence are mostly not very exciting. The main thing shared by the nation goes as follows: the President invites 2000 people into his palace, a sort of festive ball (not that you can do much dancing with how crowded it gets there), and the rest of the country watches on TV while the President shakes hands with them all. People in front of their TVs comment on who have the best and worst dresses, who stepped on their wife's train, and who came with whom. That's pretty much it. Well, there's nice background music, and the palace is pretty.

Yeah, December is probably not the best possible time for a national day in a climate like this.

Nevertheless, I am watching it. Not sure why, but somehow I do. Got to admit I'm tempted to read smutfic at the same time, just for statement's sake. On the other hand, Mum's on the sofa with me.

Anyway. We made gingerbread biscuits today. They're good. Onto Write Every Day.

Today's writing

Decided I need to leave the Yuletide story alone for a day. I just ended up scribbling a bit on the novel-in-planning: a bit of trying out scenes (not very good), a bit of general planning (more useful). I wanted to do more, maybe fic, but it feels like much isn't moving in my head today.

How about you all?

Progress at glacial speeds. If I didn't have deadlines I'd just give up and do alibi sentences only until work stops being crazy and I stop being so tired when I come home. But alas, I do have deadlines ...

Sounds like an uncomfortable situation. Here's to hoping you'll manage to meet the deadlines and it won't be way too stressful.

I'll get there in the end, it's just not much fun right now. *yawns*

Yum, gingerbread biscuits! I urgently need to bake, I crave Christmas style cookies etc. so much. At least I got up most of my Advent (Christmas) decorations by now. I'm not much of a decorating person in general, but the pre-Christmas stuff is important. ;o)
The celebrating sounds indeed a bit sedate, but like a nice thing to watch on TV. Particularly while reading smutfic! *g*
I had quite a busy day today and thought I wouldn't manage much writing, certainly not concentrating on my WIP, so I wrote about 800 words of drawer fic instead. I've no idea when I managed this since the evening was spent with a two-person RP with a close friend. Also writing, for about three hours, though. *g*

Still plugging along on Yuletide editting. I think I came to an understanding about the characters today so that hopefully some of the issues will get sorted out. :)

given how much time I had I didn't do nearly as much as I should have, about 300 words in total, half on a fullmetal alchemist yule fic and half on a new novel I probably don't need to be starting.

Well, you just had a pretty tough weekend, sometimes writing just doesn't happen so much even if you have time. Yay for words, in any case!

I enjoy Christmas things, but I suck at getting up decorations. Still, I expect my mum to have everything up proper style when I go there, tree and all. *g* I love the kind of gingerbread biscuits we make here. My mother's are the best (and I can make pretty good ones, too, if I remember to buy new spices first) but I've found a brand in the shops that's pretty good, too.

Eventually I got sick of all the tepid patriotism and just ran away to read slashfic on my own. Turns out that sort of programme kind of kills the mood when it comes to reading fic.

Hah, sometimes the most writing happens when you should totally not have the time for it! Good job!

It's not special what we do for decorations, just a grown-over-the-years mix of stuff we love, partly also crafted by me and not looking stellar! *g* My mom also makes awesome Christmas biscuits, and I'm decent at it. But my kitchen is a bit improvised and hasn't much horizontal space, and that together with four cats is a bit daunting for such tasks; I haven't done much or anything at all in the previous years. I'll have to now, though, as there isn't much I can buy in stores that tastes half-decent; I'm lactose intolerant and also newly-discovered wheat-intolerant.
