auroracloud: Zoe and Isobel from Doctor Who: two young women in 1960s short dresses and bright colours (Zoe and Isobel)
Now that Chocolate Box authors have been revealed, I can share the fic I wrote. My recipient happened to be [profile] elstaplador, with whom I share more than one fandom and ship, so I had options. I ended up writing a Zoe Heriot/Isobel Watkins story, from Classic Who. I've started several Zoe/Isobel fics before, but now I finally had to finish one, so I'm pleased.

I didn't manage to write any treats in this exchange, though I thought about many intriguing prompts. Perhaps later!

(Ratings are so hard, though, I'm not sure if this warrants Teen or Mature rating! Decided to go for the higher rating to be safe, but I've seen more descriptive Mature rated fics around than this one is.)

(Tags are hard, too, it seems that these days I go for more rather than fewer, just in case.)

auroracloud: Patrick Troughton as the Second Doctor, colour image (Second Doctor)
Last night, I finished rewatching The War Games, the last Second Doctor era serial. Which means I've now seen everything that currently exists on DVD with at least some real-actors moving-pictures episodes. I'm going to do another round where I also watch all the reconstructions and the completely animated stories (The Macra Terror of course only came out recently, so I haven't seen it yet, and I didn't buy The Power of the Daleks at first because it was all animated and I was the most concerned at first with getting everything of Two & Jamie goodness; now I of course want to see all of Two in some form and all of Ben and Polly that I can, too).

But oh, gods, this story. I did watch it once already, during the Twitch marathon when I fell in love with this era, but it's even more powerful when I've seen all the fully existing episodes of the Two era before it. And does it put me through a wringer. Mostly it's so amazing, probably my favourite of all the Doctor Who stories that I've ever seen, but oh, it hurts, too.

Reactions, comments on it all; also contains references to other stories and New Who; spoilers abound; gets very emotional )

I kind of just want to dive straight back into Two's beginning and watch all the stories and spend my life in a blissful never-ending Two era bubble. But maybe that's not so healthy. So I'll probably try to watch the Four & Leela DVDs that I own next, before I return to Round Two of Two: Now With the Missing Stuff. Four & Leela would probably be really good for me now, once I recover from this a bit, and I didn't see enough of Leela during the marathons. I'm also thinking of getting The War Machines and The Tenth Planet on DVD so I can actually also make it "watch all of Ben & Polly" and get Two's beginning in context. (I watched The War Machines during the January marathon and enjoyed it very much, but will gladly watch it again followed by all the other Ben & Polly stuff.)
auroracloud: a fountain pen against a sheet of paper and writing (writing)
It's occurred to me that I haven't shared here the last few fics I wrote, for Fandom Stocking (which was in January!) and Chocolate Box (which also has been a while, namely two months!). Actually, this has occurred to me fairly often, but not when I've been sitting down at the computer with leisure to write. As I didn't gush about my Chocolate Box gift at all here, I'm doing so at the end of the post, so check that out if you want to be recced some lovely Jane Austen femslash!

For Fandom Stocking, I wrote two little ficlets (I need to get my browser to stop correcting that word to fillets!) for [personal profile] thisbluespirit. The first was a little piece of silliness involving Two, Jamie and Zoe and historical clothing. Because 18th century aristocratic fashion will never stop being amusing.

Relationships: Second Doctor & Zoe Heriot & Jamie McCrimmon
Characters: Second Doctor, Jamie McCrimmon, Zoe Heriot
Additional Tags: Historical Dress, Silly, Humor, Historical References, Clothing, 18th Century
Summary: When you time-travel to other eras, you have to dress the part.

Right now, however, the Doctor is having some trouble convincing his companions of that.

The other fic also for [personal profile] thisbluespirit was a little Bill/Ace story. My first time writing Ace. It was lots of fun!

Relationships: Bill Potts/Ace McShane
Characters: Bill Potts, Ace McShane
Additional Tags: First Dates, Kissing, Rocket launch, Ficlet
Summary: Ace and Bill, on a date, at a rocket launch.

Also, slightly late but not too much later than deadline, I managed to post a Thirteen/Missy fic for [personal profile] trobadora. I'd written two Thirteen/Missy stories before we had more than a couple of minutes of Thirteen canon, so I wanted to give it a go now that we've actually had a season with her. Contains biscuits!

Sweetest Things (1192 words) by AuroraCloud
Fandom: Doctor Who (2005)
Rating: Mature

Relationships: Thirteenth Doctor/Missy
Characters: Thirteenth Doctor, Missy (Doctor Who)
Additional Tags: TARDIS biscuit dispenser, Cookies, Kissing, Sexual Content
Summary: The Doctor brings Missy in to admire her new TARDIS, but biscuits aren't the only thing Missy wants a taste of.

As I briefly gushed after the reveals, my own stocking was delightfully stuffed with fics, icons, recs, recipes and art, both from friends and strangers, and it would take far too long to list all of them separately. But I'll direct you to the Fandom Stocking 2018 collection if you haven't got around to checking it out in the past months, as many lovely things were created for the fest.

In February, for Chocolate Box, the "good things to eat" theme inadvertently continued in gen form as I wrote a Bill & Twelve fic. It's not all about pancakes, but there are pancakes, too. It could be called my first attempt at a five things fic if it had five parts, but it has four.

And, because I haven't gushed about Chocolate Box at all, I should add that my own gift that was written for me was a delightful Fanny Price/Mary Crawford fic for Jane Austen's Mansfield Park. Go enjoy some historical f/f / Jane Austen femslash!

auroracloud: Zoe Heriot with bright blue and pink background (Zoe Heriot)
I just watched the second and third episodes of Seeds of Death, a Doctor Who story from 1969, late in the Patrick Troughton era, and the last full story from this era that I hadn't seen yet. And I just want to make some comments because it's too much fun not to share. (Also a bit on episode 1, which I watched last week.)

Fabulous females, kilts in space etc. )
auroracloud: close-cropped image of Zoe Heriot from Classic Doctor Who, smiling (Zoe smiling)
I'm too tired to post any sensible fannish content now (mind you, I feel there's something off with the expression of 'sensible fannish content' - like those words don't belong together, you know). But I just wanted to say that, after life things and such have conspired to slow down my much-loved Second Doctor era watching, I finally finished my rewatch of The Invasion, and that story just makes me so happy. It's even better than I remembered! And Zoe gets to be so awesome in it. Go, brilliant scientist girl saving (some of) the day! In a story made in 1968!

Definitely a Classic Who/Second Doctor story I much recommend! Though probably not as the first introduction to either, simply because it's 8 episodes long and two of the episodes are animated because the original episodes are missing and only their soundtracks survive. But when you've watched some other Second Doctor era, this one should definitely be on your list as well. It's got an interesting plot, an awesome bad guy played by an excellent actor, a great supporting cast (Isobel! and that Brigadier chap is rather important for the series as a whole, you know, and this organization named UNIT also makes its first appearance). The TARDIS trio of the Doctor, Jamie and Zoe are in great form, and it's a story where all three get to be very much themselves and get enjoyable stuff to do and I just love these actors and I could go on and on and on about this but I probably need to start getting ready for bed.
auroracloud: Second Doctor, Jamie McCrimmon and Zoe Heriot from Classic Doctor Who, smiling together (Two & Jamie & Zoe happy)
I just want to do some fly-by gratuitous fannish posting about 1960s TV episodes, because after recovering from the attempt to watch some of the rerun of the Classic Who marathon (which I will comment on eventually, I hope, but the way it was going on was far too fast for me to catch more than a few stories here and there) I started watching The Invasion again, being the Second Doctor serial I was on when the marathon news came my way. Since it'd been a month, I started from the beginning again - it was a good decision, as I didn't remember everything, and I feel like I could watch the episodes from this era countless times! I watched episodes 1 and 2 tonight.
