auroracloud: a fountain pen against a sheet of paper and writing (writing)
It's occurred to me that I haven't shared here the last few fics I wrote, for Fandom Stocking (which was in January!) and Chocolate Box (which also has been a while, namely two months!). Actually, this has occurred to me fairly often, but not when I've been sitting down at the computer with leisure to write. As I didn't gush about my Chocolate Box gift at all here, I'm doing so at the end of the post, so check that out if you want to be recced some lovely Jane Austen femslash!

For Fandom Stocking, I wrote two little ficlets (I need to get my browser to stop correcting that word to fillets!) for [personal profile] thisbluespirit. The first was a little piece of silliness involving Two, Jamie and Zoe and historical clothing. Because 18th century aristocratic fashion will never stop being amusing.

Dress the Part (718 words) by AuroraCloud
Fandom: Doctor Who (1963)
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Second Doctor & Zoe Heriot & Jamie McCrimmon
Characters: Second Doctor, Jamie McCrimmon, Zoe Heriot
Additional Tags: Historical Dress, Silly, Humor, Historical References, Clothing, 18th Century
Summary: When you time-travel to other eras, you have to dress the part.

Right now, however, the Doctor is having some trouble convincing his companions of that.

The other fic also for [personal profile] thisbluespirit was a little Bill/Ace story. My first time writing Ace. It was lots of fun!

Booming and Blazing (636 words) by AuroraCloud
Fandom: Doctor Who (1963), Doctor Who (2005)
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Bill Potts/Ace McShane
Characters: Bill Potts, Ace McShane
Additional Tags: First Dates, Kissing, Rocket launch, Ficlet
Summary: Ace and Bill, on a date, at a rocket launch.

Also, slightly late but not too much later than deadline, I managed to post a Thirteen/Missy fic for [personal profile] trobadora. I'd written two Thirteen/Missy stories before we had more than a couple of minutes of Thirteen canon, so I wanted to give it a go now that we've actually had a season with her. Contains biscuits!

Sweetest Things (1192 words) by AuroraCloud
Fandom: Doctor Who (2005)
Rating: Mature
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Thirteenth Doctor/Missy
Characters: Thirteenth Doctor, Missy (Doctor Who)
Additional Tags: TARDIS biscuit dispenser, Cookies, Kissing, Sexual Content
Summary: The Doctor brings Missy in to admire her new TARDIS, but biscuits aren't the only thing Missy wants a taste of.

As I briefly gushed after the reveals, my own stocking was delightfully stuffed with fics, icons, recs, recipes and art, both from friends and strangers, and it would take far too long to list all of them separately. But I'll direct you to the Fandom Stocking 2018 collection if you haven't got around to checking it out in the past months, as many lovely things were created for the fest.

In February, for Chocolate Box, the "good things to eat" theme inadvertently continued in gen form as I wrote a Bill & Twelve fic. It's not all about pancakes, but there are pancakes, too. It could be called my first attempt at a five things fic if it had five parts, but it has four.

Friends Make Friends Pancakes (1658 words) by AuroraCloud
Fandom: Doctor Who (2005)
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Twelfth Doctor & Bill Potts
Characters: Twelfth Doctor, Bill Potts
Additional Tags: Season/Series 10, Friendship, Male-Female Friendship, Exploring the TARDIS, Slice of Life, Domestic, Clothing, Cooking, Pancakes, Hats, Books, Board Games, Life in the TARDIS
Summary: Moments from the life of Bill and the Doctor on the TARDIS, in four scenes.

And, because I haven't gushed about Chocolate Box at all, I should add that my own gift that was written for me was a delightful Fanny Price/Mary Crawford fic for Jane Austen's Mansfield Park. Go enjoy some historical f/f / Jane Austen femslash!

Continuing with my very-behind Fandom Snowflake challenge!

Day 2: Rec at least three fanworks that you didn’t create.

All righty! I could be at this all night, but let's try not to. First, here are a few fics, old and new, across various fandoms.

First, my Yuletide gift from this year totally deserves to be mentioned again, though I did squee about it on the day of the reveals.
An Example of Benevolent Selfishness (5724 words, General Audiences) by Alona, Jane Austen: Emma, Emma Woodhouse & Jane Fairfax with a hint of femslash. A truly beautiful, excellent and in character canon divergence AU where Emma and Jane become friendly earlier, and this has important changes for Jane and her life - I would say better than things turn out for her in the book, all things considered. Their relationship is developed beautifully and gradually and awesomely, and it's amazing and makes me happy.

Another from the latest Yuletide:

The Pelerins Progress, or a Long Wei to a Smalle Angri Islet (1220 words, General Audiences) by UrsulaKohl, Becky Chambers - Wayfarers series, featuring the characters and pairings from The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet. Basically it's the story of the book told in Middle English as a Chaucerian miracle tale and it's awesome. Go enjoy the uplifting adventures of the fair Rosmarine and all the other pilgrims of the Pelerin.

Then some Doctor Who fics from my bookmarks on AO3:

Gravity (4179 words, General Audiences) by kathkin, Doctor Who (1963), Second Doctor/Jamie McCrimmon. Undoubtedly my favourite Two/Jamie writer, she gets both of their personalities and their dialogue and all so well, and I probably haven't recced this one anywhere yet. A lovely fic set early in Jamie's time with the Doctor, containing awesomeness of space and the universe, things Jamie learns, and very cute Two/Jamie moments.

Precipice (1761 words, Explicit), also by kathkin, also Doctor Who (1963) and Second Doctor/Jamie, but this one has very explicit sexual content. It's gorgeous and smutty and fluffy and adorable.

I should probably rec some gen as well because I actually totally like Jamie and the Doctor simply as two touchy-feely friends, too, but when I look on the tag I discover that all the ones I remember what they're like are also by kathkin... Ah, what the heck, have Too Much, a cute little gen ficlet from the Two & Jamie & Ben & Polly era, in which the Doctor sometimes finds his companions a bit too much - or maybe not.

This one I haven’t yet read all the parts of, but the parts I did read so far are great, and I trust the remaining ones are, too. Fabulous Investigations by [personal profile] john_amend_all, with Zoe and Isobel (and Zoe/Isobel). Zoe and Isobel being awesome in several stories!

Finally, some New Who:

When She's Ten Feet Tall by Nancy Brown, a Doctor Who / Alice In Wonderland crossover in which Martha Jones is awesome. You know with all the things Martha has gotten through, she can deal with Wonderland as well!

Sub-Subliminal, by 51st Century Fox, in which Jack Harkness, working for Torchwood in 1969, meets The Silence.

Memory of Water by weakinteraction, a beautiful, stunningly lovely Bill/Heather story from the latest Femslash Exchange.

Second, here's some Doctor Who fan art, because I've recently realized that if I go to DeviantArt and type in characters I like, I have a good chance of finding images that I'm very happy to look at. And I should share! (Also, trying to not totally flood [community profile] tardis_library with my fan art recs.)

First (and I’m going to rec this at [community profile] tardis_library, too, but it’s too lovely not to be posted in more than one place) [deviantart.com profile] Miss-Alex-Aphey’s Doctor Who Flowers series with various female companions from all eras of Doctor Who drawn with flowers that suit them. While the idea combining women and flowers may sound cliched and trite, it’s not so with these pictures - the characters look just as sharp and active as they are in canon, they’re all gorgeously drawn, and the flowers are vivid and awesome. Many of these are my favourite fan art ever for that character. Here are links to a few of them, and you can go on and find others:
Martha Jones
Amy Pond
wee!Amelia Pond
Nyssa of Traken
Victoria Waterfield
Ace
Vicki

Velcro-Scot. Second Doctor & Jamie. To quote the description: "There is a term used among bird owners, particularly those who own very personable, loving birds such as cockatoos that would be content to spend their whole day in their owners arms cuddling or clinging to them in any other way, in which such clinging birds are called "velcro birds.” (…) It was seriously only a matter of time would apply this to Jamie."

And here is Zoe getting nose-booped by the Doctor!

A cute drawing of Jamie, Zoe, and an iPod by [deviantart.com profile] ladyyaxetel.

Finally, here’s a lovely Two & Jamie drawing by [deviantart.com profile] EttelwenAilinon Safety Cling No more shippy than canon, trust me. That’s them in approximately every other scene.
auroracloud: a fountain pen against a sheet of paper and writing (writing)
Hello, dear Chocolatier! (is that the generally accepted term? Hope so!)

I’ll be really happy for fic about any of these fandoms and relationships. And if someone happens to browse this who also does art, I’d also be happy with fan art, I just haven’t got enough ideas about art to prompt what I like in it, so I decided to request just fic.

I try to provide lots of prompts and general likes and such in the hope that it helps you on with your writing, but you don’t need to feel any pressure to incorporate specific likes or use specific prompts. I’m always happy with either gen or shippy fic, and even when I ship two character I tend to madly adore gen with the same characters, too. You can always modify or combine prompts, too, or take a shippy-sounding prompt and turn it gen or vice versa.

As long as you avoid my DNWs, feel free to create anything you like with these fandoms and characters, and I hope you will have fun writing!

Fandoms and relationships

In the fandoms with multiple relationships requested, the order of the relationship tags is the order I got them in the sign-up form, so it doesn't indicate preference. And if I have more prompts for some fandom or relationship than another, that doesn't indicate preference either, I've only requested stuff I'm really keen to see! (In particular, I realize looking at this that I've got ridiculously many more prompts for Classic Who than New Who, but that's probably because I'm newer into the Classic Who fandom, so my thoughts haven't coalesced as much yet and they're all over the place. Or it may be a feature of how awake I was when I wrote each portion.)

Yuletide main collection stories have been revealed, and I received a most wonderful gift, in form of a canon divergence story of Jane Austen's Emma, with Emma and Jane Fairfax becoming friends earlier in the timeline, and some changes to Jane's. It can be read as either gen or as f/f or pre-femslash, whichever interpretation works best for you (which makes it perfect for me as I adore both), and it's written in a delightful Austen-esque voice, and with everyone wonderfully in character!

An Example of Benevolent Selfishness (5724 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Emma - Jane Austen
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Jane Fairfax/Emma Woodhouse, Jane Fairfax & Emma Woodhouse
Characters: Emma Woodhouse, Jane Fairfax
Additional Tags: Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence, Developing Relationship
Summary: A chance encounter between Emma and Jane leads to a drastic change in their relationship.

I haven't yet read any other stories in the collection, but I'll be sure to read some today, there are stories in all kinds of lovely fandoms.

Also, my fic in [personal profile] navaan's Spicy Advent Calendar was revealed last night. It's Doctor Who, Martha Jones/Bill Potts, which I've wanted to write for ages. This is not the fic I spent weeks trying to get together, but the one that my muse gave me as soon as I gave up on that fic, and probably the one I should really have been writing all along. So if you've wanted to read a Martha/Bill fic with explicit sex, I've now provided one. Click here to read the calendar entry and get the link to my story!

[profile] femslashexchange reveals happened a few days ago, and I'm starting to get caught up with my comment replies (though not reading all that I mean to read from the collection). I may at some point do a general recs post, because there were some lovely fics written for this challenge. But as I haven't yet pointed out my lovely gift fics, I shall do that and then also share my own fic. I was fortunate enough to be gifted two lovely fics in the Original Work category, both by the talented [personal profile] el_staplador.

By the author of "Laura's Dilemma" (2901 words) by El Staplador
Fandom: Original Work
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Original Female Character/Original Female Character, Regency Debutante/Her Sister's Governess
Characters: Original Female Character(s)
Additional Tags: Regency, Books, Gossip, Class Differences, Age Difference, Secret Identity, Reference to illness suffered by child
Summary: There was always a fire in the schoolroom grate, even when she came home long after midnight. And Miss Cole was always there. Sometimes she would be turning over the pages of a novel (Maria was almost sure it was a novel); sometimes writing a letter; sometimes she would be dozing in the high-backed chair that had been Mamma's favourite when they lived in the country; but she would always be there when Maria looked in.

And Maria always looked in.

Regency romance between two women, a debutante and her sister's governess! Using and subverting tropes and expectations! Novels and reader girls and secret authors! Written in a perfect regency romance style while telling not quite your standard regency romance! What's not to love? It's beautiful, do go and read it if you haven't already and have the slightest reason to believe you might enjoy such a story.

faites-lui mes aveux (8357 words) by El Staplador
Fandom: Original Work
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Original Character/Original Character, Mezzo in Pants/Soprano
Characters: Original Characters
Additional Tags: University, opera - Freeform, Femslash, Theatre
Summary: Leah Beecham is cast as Marguerite, and that's only the first surprise that the university Operatic Society production of Faust brings with it. And Ellie Everett should probably have kept out of OpSoc altogether if she wanted to avoid Music Department drama, but it's a bit late now, because she's got the part of Siebel...

Opera story from a modern student production with a lovely, gradually developing f/f story and lots of behind-the-scenes drama! And it's written with enough detail that you can follow it quite well even if you don't know the opera they're performing. Trust me on this - I haven't had the opportunity to see Faust in any format, so my knowledge of it is scattered, though I am familiar with the more famous songs and know the basic story. I rarely can follow operas based on recordings alone and I find DVDs and such unsatisfying, so I have a lot of gaps despite the fact that I love opera. For the longest time I didn't live anywhere where I could go to opera, so I have a lot of catching up to do, even if the Met Live / ROH Live screenings help somewhat (which reminds me, should get some tickets for this season).

Finally, here's my fic, which [livejournal.com profile] imagine_peace was kind enough to beta-read for me:

Shades of Fair and Dark (4758 words) by AuroraCloud
Fandom: Mansfield Park - Jane Austen
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Mary Crawford/Fanny Price
Characters: Mary Crawford, Fanny Price, Julia Bertram
Additional Tags: Post-Canon, Female Characters, Female Relationships, Female Friendship, Music, Femslash, Femslash Exchange 2018, Kissing, Touching, Mentions of Edmund Bertram but no appearance by him
Summary: Years later, Fanny Bertram (née Price) meets Mary Crawford again. Much has changed, and things go differently than Fanny would have expected.

My first Austen fic ever! I've been reading and rereading all the Jane Austen novels since my late teens, but I've never written fic for one before - partly because I guess it took me a while to realize that writing femslash on Austen works was a perfectly legitimate and much-needed thing to do. I confess I felt slight "OMG what did I do?" at the first sight of the assignment, because when volunteering the fandom I had only considered the fact that I would love to write this pairing and not the fact that the last time I had read Mansfield Park was over four years ago, and I would have to reread it, and it is the slowest Austen work to read, being rather dense in style. But I'm really happy in the end that I got to work on this, because the reread itself was very rewarding, and so was the writing of the story.

Since Mansfield Park does have it issues (such as *coughEdmundcough*), rereading it from the point of view of "how will I use this to write Fanny/Mary" made some difficult parts of it easier to get through, and it made me focus particularly much attention on those characters and probably gave me viewpoints I hadn't had on my previous rereads. Not that I wouldn't always focus mostly on Fanny and Mary because they're easily the most developed characters in the story, and the ones I find the most interesting (especially as Mary's character kind of needs to be excavated from under the huge bias Fanny has). The request itself had lovely prompts to select from, but my muse was pretty clear from early on which one it most wanted to write. Writing the story was fascinating and I really enjoyed it, though it certainly wasn't one of the easiest fics to write. I'd love to go on and explore the story even further after the ending I wrote here, so maybe I'll return to it some day.

Now that I've gotten started on my Austen reread, I think it's time to go to reread all the other books. And femslash as many of them as I can!
