Dear Yuletide writer,

Thank you for offering to write whichever of these rare fandoms we matched on! Sorry it took me a while to get the full letter up. I’m also sorry it’s anything but concise – that’s not why it took me so long to finish - rather, it’s the case that when I got myself organized enough to write this, I wrote a lot.

First, I’m into a lot of different kinds of stories, so relax and don’t fret too much. I don’t have a huge load of DNWs and I enjoy seeing different ways people interpret the same source material, the different possible stories they come up with. I’m often a multi-shipper – doesn’t mean I like every ship, but I’m not jealously guarding an OTP in most cases – and I genuinely like gen as much as I like shippy stuff. Given how found family heavy some of these fandoms are, maybe that’s not too difficult to believe!

But I’ll give you a bit about some of the things I like, and some more thoughts and prompts for each fandom, in case that kind of thing helps you. However, if you aren’t the kind of writer who works better with prompts; if these restrict you rather than inspire you; then don’t pay attention them. Seriously! I want you to write what inspires you. Often I don’t even know what I’ll enjoy reading before I read it, and the most enjoyable stories are usually ones that the writer was passionate about writing. But if these extra ramblings, lists and ideas help you pick a direction or a starting point, here, make use of them.

If you need an emergency fandom because the one we matched on doesn't work for you after all, I'd say The Beacon and This Is How You Lose the Time War would be the easiest to pick up on a short time-frame. I've described them a bit from that perspective after the request part. I'd guess We Fix Space Junk wouldn't be that hard either - while there are three seasons, they're 8 episodes each and the episodes aren't that long.

The Requests

Here are the requests, with the details I wrote in the sign-up plus whatever additional things I have to add in the letter. The request part is in italics, and whatever additional stuff I rambled now is in a normal font. Sorry some of the DNWs part keeps being repeated, but there are also fandom-specific differences.

Dear Chocolatier,

Thank you so much for writing for me! I'm super into all these fandoms and characters — I even had to drop out some I really love because I didn't have the energy to write requests for more than these, so trust me that whatever you've matched on / whatever you pick, I'll be happy to receive it.

I like a whole load of genres and tropes and stuff, so feel free to do the kind of story that you like, minding my DNWs. I don't usually like totally unhappy endings, though I've tried to indicate if this isn't the case with a particular relationship. It doesn't need to be a totally happy ending either, though, bittersweet/mixed/oh-my-goodness-this-is-crazy/etc. works just as well.

I'm providing some prompts and things-I-like in this letter and the sign-up, but these are just to help spark your imagination if you are a writer who works better with prompts and details. You absolutely don't need to use any of my prompts. Go wild! Have fun!

I like gen, f/f, m/m, m/f and other things. When I like a ship, I usually am just as fond of gen relationships between the characters, and often have requested both versions of the relationship and I really am interested in both just as much.

If you want to write crossovers/fusions with two (or more!) of these fandoms, or with one of these fandoms and another fandom you know I like, feel free to do so.

Note: if you feel stuck on the fandom we matched on but don't know any of the others or don't want to write for them for any reason, I can propose the following rescues: Moonbase Theta Out and We Fix Space Junk are both podcast dramas that are fairly easy to consume in a short time - they've both only got two seasons out and the episodes aren't long. This is How You Lose the Time War is a novella and doesn't take long to read.

Dear Yuletide Writer

Thank you so much for writing for me! I'm super into all these fandoms and characters, and there isn't enough fic about any of them, whether the number of existing fics is 1 or 150 or whatever. So I'm sure I'll be pleased with whatever you write for me. I like a whole load of things and genres and stuff, so feel free to go wild. I'm providing some prompts and things-I-like in this letter and the sign-up, but these are just to help spark your imagination, if you are a writer who works better with prompts and details. You absolutely don't need to stick to writing about something I've explicitly mentioned.

(Note early on Nov. 4th: I may edit this slightly later in the day, as I edited some sign-up details and don't have the time to finish editing the letter now. But it's nothing major, just some phrasings and prompts and such - the fandoms, characters and the DNWs are valid as is.)

I like gen, f/f, m/m, m/f and other things. I like many genres and tropes, for example adventures, mysteries, romance, smut, domestic/slice of life, fluff, angst (with a happy or sort-of-happy ending because otherwise my feelings get too down, but it doesn't mean you have to make problems disappear), character studies, missing moments, past fic, future fic. I usually like either canon universe or fork-in-the-road/canon divergence AUs. If you want to write crossovers with two (or more!) of these fandoms, or with one of these fandoms and another fandom you know I like, feel free to do so.

Mostly I've discovered/read these books only fairly recently (save for the Wayfarers series) so if I say something dumb because my brain is having a useless moment, just ignore it.

I'm okay with fairly dark stuff depending on how present those themes are in canon. Ie. you can go darker with Machineries of Empire than with other things. I'm okay with stories dealing with mental health issues, especially ones that are present in canon as well, but please tag for them so I know when I start reading. I have some mental health issues myself, and while sometimes reading about characters dealing (or not dealing) with theirs is helpful, it's good to know that's coming up. And I'd prefer not getting super deep into suicidal/self-harm stuff even if it's canon. Warn for anything that requires warning, but generally, stuff that the canon deals with is also okay in fic, as long as we know.

And here be the requests! It's mostly just the same stuff as in my sign-up, but for some fandoms I have additional notes. Also, the Machineries of Empire part includes some post-Glass Cannon prompts after the sign-up part, so if you haven't read Glass Cannon, skip that.

Good luck to anyone starting NaNoWriMo today! I'm not doing it, but I signed up for [community profile] mini_wrimo to write at least 100 words each day during November. (You can set the word count you want to sign up for; 100 words is the minimum. The sign-ups are on until November 10 if you're interested.) I've lately been able to break through my post-CampNaNo slump with my novel by writing at least 100 words of it every day, no matter what else I write. I decided to use the community to help me stick to this practice for all of November. 100 words is such a low word count that it's not much pressure to at least do that, and that seems to be the key for me - and most of the time it turns into more, anyway.

I'm working on my Yuletide sign-up. The sign-ups still go on for a few more days, check [community profile] yuletide_admin for the schedule and other info. I'm contemplating whether I'm going to do all my requests in 2010s awesome diverse scifi books fandoms, or if I'll include a historical/old book fandom or two. But this is the first year I could do all of the sign-up in 2010s awesome diverse scifi books, because I've actually read and finished enough series I super much want to read fic for. The ones I'm thinking of requesting are The Imperial Radch series, This Is How You Lose the Time War, the Machineries of Empire series and my old staple, the Wayfarers series (where I have so much trouble narrowing down which characters!). There's also other great stuff in the tag set, like A Memory Called Empire, the Murderbot novellas, and my currently-reading book Empress of Forever. And that's just the 2010s awesome diverse scifi I know! Let's not even get into the other books, the podcasts, the historical RPF (I could request Mary Anning!! I kind of want to, but I have to think about how many requests I want to have).

Also, Write Every Day is hosted by [personal profile] silveradept in November!

Okay, I'm too tired to continue, so that's all for tonight!

Dear Public Call Writer,

I didn't manage to fit the character/era-specific prompts into the sign-up, so I'm posting them here. I also include my general likes and Do Not Wants from the sign-up, just in case. Please don't be discouraged if I seem to have more prompts or things to say about another era/relationship than the one you matched on - I assure you I'm equally interested in all that I requested, otherwise I wouldn't have requested them. I've got so much more on the Second Doctor era because there are so many characters and relationships I requested there, so it's hard to be concise yet not leave people out. But all the others interest me as well! And as always, these details and prompts are only meant to help you if you're the sort of writer who works better with more information and prompts. If you prefer to go without them, pay no heed to them, except kindly heed my DNWs!

Femslash Exchange Letter 2019

Hello, dear creator,

Thank you for creating for me! This letter is so that I can add stuff I didn't have time to add to the sign-up. I've had rather a hard time actually focusing on things lately, so I left the sign-ups until quite late. Sorry about that. Everything I write here is intended to help you if you happen to find it useful, so if anything makes you feel pressured about your writing, forget it and don't worry about it. I'm sure there are plenty of things I'd enjoy which I simply haven't thought to mention. I'm including the fandom-specific details from the sign-up in italics. How long I go on about each fandom/relationships is not a measure of how much I want it — I'll be happy for any of these!

Dear Hurt/Comfort exchange writer,

Thank you so much for writing for me! I’m a total sucker for hurt/comfort fics, so when I learned there’s an exchange specifically for them, I had to sign up. Now, I picked enough freeform tags that they should already give you plenty of prompts and ideas, and if you go from one or more of them and avoid my DNWs, you should be very well off. But here’s more information and some fandom-specific prompts in case it’s useful for you! I apologise this is very long and rambling, especially with all the freeform tags from the sign-up included. Don’t be put off by it or think I’m especially demanding. It was taking so much time to just get any thoughts into words that I didn’t manage to make it concise as well! If anything feels like too much pressure, just ignore it. You can always just go along with the relationships and something from the freeform tags; this letter is just to provide extra information and specific prompts if you feel you need them, espeically since in all fandoms I’ve selected several possible relationships.

Hello, dear Chocolatier! (is that the generally accepted term? Hope so!)

I’ll be really happy for fic about any of these fandoms and relationships. And if someone happens to browse this who also does art, I’d also be happy with fan art, I just haven’t got enough ideas about art to prompt what I like in it, so I decided to request just fic.

I try to provide lots of prompts and general likes and such in the hope that it helps you on with your writing, but you don’t need to feel any pressure to incorporate specific likes or use specific prompts. I’m always happy with either gen or shippy fic, and even when I ship two character I tend to madly adore gen with the same characters, too. You can always modify or combine prompts, too, or take a shippy-sounding prompt and turn it gen or vice versa.

As long as you avoid my DNWs, feel free to create anything you like with these fandoms and characters, and I hope you will have fun writing!

Fandoms and relationships

In the fandoms with multiple relationships requested, the order of the relationship tags is the order I got them in the sign-up form, so it doesn't indicate preference. And if I have more prompts for some fandom or relationship than another, that doesn't indicate preference either, I've only requested stuff I'm really keen to see! (In particular, I realize looking at this that I've got ridiculously many more prompts for Classic Who than New Who, but that's probably because I'm newer into the Classic Who fandom, so my thoughts haven't coalesced as much yet and they're all over the place. Or it may be a feature of how awake I was when I wrote each portion.)

Hello, dear Yuletide writer!

Fantastic, we share a fandom and characters! Great! I’ll be really happy for fic about any of these, as there simply isn’t enough. I try to provide lots of prompts and general likes and such in the hope that it helps you on with your writing, but you don’t need to feel any pressure to incorporate specific likes or use specific prompts. I’m always happy with either gen or shippy fic, and even if the request sounded like I’d prefer shippy, rest assured that gen is always wonderful and welcome, too. You can always modify or combine prompts, too, or take a shippy-sounding prompt and turn it gen or vice versa.

I’m listing my general likes, dislikes and DNWs, and then each request and some additional prompts and details for it. I first include the request as it was in the sign-up, and then provide some additional details. Except for the Count of Monte Cristo request, because it was already in a sort of a prompt list format, so I simply expanded it. (And included some gen prompts and ideas as well, because I realised after the sign-ups that I’d written the request with shippy assumptions.)

As long as you avoid my DNWs, feel free to create anything you like with these fandoms and characters, and I hope you will have fun writing!

Hello, dear writer! I couldn’t fit everything in my sign-up, so I’m posting all the request-specific stuff in the letter here. My general likes and Do Not Wants are in the request, but I’m putting them in the beginning of the letter just in case. Skip them if you’ve got them already. This is obscenely long, because that’s apparently the only way I know to write exchange letters. Don’t let it scare you. I adore all the characters and relationships I requested, so I’ll be pretty happy with anything in character as long as it steers clear of my Do Not Wants.

Though I throw a lot of specific prompts at you later, you can feel free to ignore them, or change them in any way that doesn’t cause problems with my Do Not Wants. I just like having lots of prompts in my requests/letters because I’m myself the kind of writer who works better with prompts, even if I don’t always follow them to the letter, and it maybe gives you an idea of what I particularly like. But if they don’t work for you, don’t feel any pressure at all to use any of them!
