I'm too tired to post any sensible fannish content now (mind you, I feel there's something off with the expression of 'sensible fannish content' - like those words don't belong together, you know). But I just wanted to say that, after life things and such have conspired to slow down my much-loved Second Doctor era watching, I finally finished my rewatch of The Invasion, and that story just makes me so happy. It's even better than I remembered! And Zoe gets to be so awesome in it. Go, brilliant scientist girl saving (some of) the day! In a story made in 1968!
Definitely a Classic Who/Second Doctor story I much recommend! Though probably not as the first introduction to either, simply because it's 8 episodes long and two of the episodes are animated because the original episodes are missing and only their soundtracks survive. But when you've watched some other Second Doctor era, this one should definitely be on your list as well. It's got an interesting plot, an awesome bad guy played by an excellent actor, a great supporting cast (Isobel! and that Brigadier chap is rather important for the series as a whole, you know, and this organization named UNIT also makes its first appearance). The TARDIS trio of the Doctor, Jamie and Zoe are in great form, and it's a story where all three get to be very much themselves and get enjoyable stuff to do and I just love these actors and I could go on and on and on about this but I probably need to start getting ready for bed.

Date: 2019-03-05 10:30 pm (UTC)Also, forgive me, I don't know if I told you this already and my apologies if I have: I met Frazer Hines a couple of years back and he was such a lovely gentleman. I asked him what it was like working with Patrick because it was wonderful to meet someone who had known this man personally and he was absolutely complimentary and obviously had very fond memories. Apparently they were quite cheeky on set! :D

Date: 2019-03-07 10:41 am (UTC)I am incredibly fond of the Second Doctor era stories and they make me very happy, so it's not a chore to watch them. It's just been a bit difficult to schedule, because of things going on lately, and because I've sucked at time management, so when I've been able to get other necessary things done, it's often been to late or I've been too tired to watch things. I don't have trouble sitting still, but I get easily overwhelmed by audiovisual stuff, so I can't watch as much as some people do. There's only so much sensory processing I can deal with at once. Though old TV is nicer that way, because it's less busy both visually and aurally.
I think you said that before but it was at a time when I fell behind on my comments and so I never replied to that comment! Sorry about that. But that sounds lovely! I love it when actors fondly remember / still like the people they've worked with and obviously had great chemistry with, and Frazer Hines seems like a total sweetie. I haven't met him or even really watched any interviews with him yet - so far I'm still busy getting caught up with the canon! - but I've listened to a few Big Finish interviews with him and occasionally taken a look at his Twitter account. And he seems like such a dear fellow! I love how many of the old-time Doctor Who stars are still engaged with the fandom, so many decades later. I bet they never could have guessed when they took on the job that people would still remember and love them for it in the 2010s! Especially the ones who started out in the 1960s when the show was only starting. (I read somewhere that Patrick Troughton originally thought the show would last a few weeks after he took on as the lead. *g*)

Date: 2019-03-07 08:57 am (UTC)The Invasion is so fabulous! I watched it last summer because it hadn't been a part of the marathon and I wanted to see it, but it was even more exciting to watch it now that I'm watching the stories more or less in proper order. (Of course, once I'm done watching all of the Troughton era, I'm going to go back and to the beginning also watch all the recons of the missing stuff and the completely animated things. I suppose it'll be a while before I have to buy many more new DVDs. Though I do want to get started on that S19 blu-ray set some time...)

Oh, well, now I'm jealous! They're only doing those season boxsets on blu-ray and guess who has no blu-ray? (Ah well, guess who also really does not need to replace all those DW DVDs any time soon, lol.)

Date: 2019-03-08 11:12 am (UTC)I figure it's a good idea to buy the interesting-to-me blu-ray sets as they become available, because mostly I don't own those DVDs yet, having come to the fandom so recently - and the blu-ray set is going to take up much less space than getting all the DVDs separately! Plus all the shiny extras etc.
