Because I'm supposed to be editing Fandom_Stocking fic, here, have instead a fandom meme via various people. Though it's for 2016, most of the stuff I mention isn't something that actually came out in 2016, since much of my fannish existence was watching Doctor Who and Torchwood DVDs from years and years ago. And also when book-reading, I only occasionally read stuff from the current year.

Your main fandom of the year?

Doctor Who / Torchwood. There were a few months in the early half of the year when I was more occupied with something else, but most of the time, my obsession with the Whoniverse was what kept me sane (well, for a given definition of sane).

Your favourite film watched this year?

I didn't watch many, so I guess I'll go with Ghostbusters. It was fun and feel-good, there were women being awesome and being friends and hunting ghosts together, and for once men were totally secondary, and there was Holtzmann. I'm not pretending it was an unprecedented cinematic artwork, but I had lots of fun.

Your favourite book read this year?

The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers. An instant favourite, and the first book in ages that I reread within the same month of reading it for the first time (that was partly because it was my Yuletide assignment, but I also adored reading it again). Also, its stand-alone, A Closed and Common Orbit, as well as Catherynne M. Valente's Radiance (a wonderfully weird, imaginative and gorgeously written steampunk AU space opera scifi mystery etc.). Radiance was probably objectively the best, most mind-blowing book I read in the year, and I need to reread it to appreciate it even more. But the Becky Chambers books were sanity-saving at a time when much needed, and ticked most of my fannish boxes and some I didn't yet know existed.

Your favourite album or song to listen to this year?

At different parts of the year, I went through different phases with listening to the same CD or song over and over again, but I guess John Barrowman's "Another Side" album was the thing I listened to the most repeatedly and constantly. Right at the end of the year, I finally ordered his "Music Music Music" and "You Raise Me Up" and loved them even better, especially the latter one, but I only had them for a few days so I guess they don't count. Around the same time, I also got Laura Wright's lovely CD "The Last Rose" and listened to it a lot over the next days; and I had listened to some of the songs from that from YouTube throughout the year, especially Lavender's Blue and The Last Rose of Summer.

Your favourite TV show of the year?

Doctor Who. I'm still frightfully behind, so I'm talking about seasons in the last decade.

Your favourite LJ community of the year?

I haven't done much interacting in communities yet. So I'm going to say [livejournal.com profile] wintercompanion even if I haven't exactly done much there (just a couple of comments on fics), because it's through reading the fics there that I realized there are other fans of Doctor Who and Doctor/Jack with active journals, and it might be worth it returning to LJ at all. Besides, how can I not adore a community dedicated to fic about my favourite ship in absolute ages?

Your best new fandom discovery of the year?

Torchwood, and Becky Chambers's Wayfarers series. Also, since I finished Gail Carriger's Finishing School series at the end of the year and now have a ton of plotbunnies and femslash ships for that one, it might also count.

Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year?

I guess (this is obviously from years and years back, but I only watched it this year) end of Tenth Doctor's run - I wasn't terribly into the specials, on a whole. The Waters of Mars was the best written one, but too dark and depressing. The End of Time had lots of individually awesome stuff (Wilf! the Master stuff was mostly cool, too) but it was weird and crammed, and I wish Ten had had a slightly more dignified exit. I'm not saying I hated it, but fandom things were one of the best things about last year, so I don't think there were bigger disappointments.

Your TV boyfriend of the year?

Captain Jack Harkness. The Tenth Doctor. Ianto Jones.

Your TV girlfriend of the year?

Martha Jones, Toshiko Sato. And Donna Noble in the BFF girlfriend sense.

Your biggest squee moment of the year?

Ooh, hard to say. I don't exactly remember which episodes of Doctor Who S4 I watched in 2016, but there was a lot of squee there, especially the awesomeness of Turn Left. And in Torchwood, there was a lot of great stuff especially in most of the S2 episodes I watched in 2016, but I guess the whole scene in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang where Jack and Ianto are in the office and Jack babbles and then asks Ianto out and is kind of awkwardly adorable… that was pretty high on the squee front in particular. As in, I definitely did squee out loud. Also, in The Long Way To a Small Angry Planet, the moment that my femslash ship sailed.

The most missed of your old fandoms?

Hmm, none, really. I'm happy with the current ones.

The fandom you haven't tried yet, but want to?

There are a whole bunch of TV shows which sound interesting but I haven't watched them. Sense8 sounds like something I ought to try. And I should try some of the other scifi shows besides Doctor Who which I've missed in the past. Ooh, and I want to try Arrow, because it has John Barrowman. I'm easy sometimes.

Your biggest fan anticipations for the new year?

I plan to go on to watch the Eleventh Doctor soon, so I'm very curious about that! A lot of people I know don't like the Moffat-showrunner-era Doctor Who, but a lot of people also love them and Eleven, so I'm just going to find out for myself, as usual. Hmm, also, if Gail Carriger's Romancing the Werewolf is to be out in 2017, then that is another thing I very much anticipated. Damn it, I shipped that pairing ever since those two characters first met, and now to finally have a whole novella about them! But I just checked Gail's website, and there's no exact release date yet.
