Here's the post for December 8th.

Today's writing

I should have had time today, but it was hard to focus on the writing. Still, I got a few hundred words on the Yuletide fic, and when I just finish the last scene and fill out a few bits in between, I'll have myself a first draft. A first draft that needs loads of editing, but still. I also got a couple of hundred words more on another fic I've been writing lately. I'd really like to do more focused writing again, though. Now I'm constantly hopping from that to something else entirely. Let's see if tomorrow is any better in that respect.

Joining you with the need to be more focussed; there's so much going on these days that I don't seem to be able to fit in concentrated work. I'm fascinated how well this works, though: like the last two days, I sat down to just write a few token words because I was too tired for more, and suddenly there were several hundred. Nearly 700 today, of something new: I finished the third novel of my current Darkover re-read today, and need to write fix-it fic for myself. ;o)

For me it's not so much that there's much going on, just... well, other things. Am not feeling entirely well, which affects my focus. Still, writing tends to make me feel better, so I should try to get that to work.

I'm glad it's worked that well for you! Yeah, the effect has been similar for me. Especially throughout the autumn, when I was very busy, I'd often sit down to write just the alibi sentence or a few, and end up with much more because I got into the swing of writing. And yay if the need for fix-it fic results in so many words! Watching/reading things can cause surprise inspiration; for me it's currently not as much fix-it as "damn, canon isn't telling half of the interesting things, I'll see about filling them in myself".

I think this is the first time I had the urge for a fix-it; usually it's rather like you say, filling in the blanks of and background to canon.

Still more Yuletide. Think I wound up with negative words for the day, but that is a good thing. I think I am about ready to send this beast to beta again. Yay.

Negative words is sometimes necessary when editing. I'm going to have that once I hit the editing phase, too - I hope, at least. Yay for being ready to send it to beta again!
