Today's writing

I finished Yuletide! That is, the first draft. It still needs to be edited like whoah, and I hope I can cut down a good bit of it because it measures almost 7K at the moment and that's too much. But the first draft is done! The beginning of today was crappy, and I didn't even try to write, but in the afternoon I slept and felt much better, and after dinner and a bit of reading I just sat in front of the computer and tap-tap-tapped away until it was done. About 1600 words at one go. It was so nice to have a good writing day for a change.

Good luck for you all with your writing!

Congrats on finishing Yuletide, that's fantastic! You have plenty of time left for editing. (Why is 7k too much, though? Longer fic is great!)

I had a pretty bad day yesterday - went to the doctor because of a stubborn cough that wouldn't go away; got meds; got knocked over so badly by the meds that I wasn't fit for anything the entire rest of the day. I just about remembered to scribble down an alibi sentence, at least.

Today, I tried a lower dose and it didn't knock me over quite as badly, so I actually got a bit of writing done after all. But still, ugh.

Ugh, stubborn cough sounds nasty, and meds that knock you out so much even more so. I hope you'll better soon!

Thank you! I'll take the cough over the side effects.

Thanks! It's a relief not to have to be as busy with the editing as I did in the case of my Public Call fic. :-) And it's not that it's too long for a fic in general, I love long fics; it's just that I don't think this story has enough content for that many words. :-) I usually write sprawling first drafts that benefit from taking away some excess stuff that doesn't add anything. I'm pretty sure some things get explained twice in this draft. ;-)

Ugh, that sounds really unpleasant situation! I hope your cough gets better without you needing to be knocked over by such meds, that sounds quite awful. Glad you were able to get a bit of writing done despite it.

I see! My stories always grow in the editing - I may remove a lot of stuff, but I add more.

Makes sense, I think. One of the things I really admire about your writing is your skill at saying much with comparatively few words. It sort of makes sense that it would go hand in hand with writing first drafts that you add to rather than take away from. Don't know if that made sense in my explanation, but it did in my head. :-D My habitual method is to toss in everything and the kitchen sink, then try to figure out what is allowed to stay. Usually I leave in too much, and I've been trying to learn out of that.

Congrats! My Yuletide ended up at 7k too I think, but I still haven't edited it. /o\ Instead I wrote 1k of a different fic today.

Well, that sounds good, too! I anyway like to take a bit of time between first draft and editing if possible, it makes it easier to look at it with a clear mind.

Congrats on finishing the yule story. Day nine netted 390 words on my yule story but I'm at a spot that need thinking. Parties are fun to be at but less fun to write.

Thanks. :-)

Sometimes you need a bit of time to think your writing through. :-) Well, at least you know what's fun about parties, then. I only like the sort of parties I and my friends have, which mean tea and food and chatting about geeky things. My experience of the more normal parties is "too many people, too much noise, and why isn't there more music you can actually dance to, and everyone expects me to be getting drunk and thinks I'm somehow flawed for not doing so, and to be honest being drunk would probably be the only way to tolerate them when they're drunk, and I think I'll go home and read something now".

Honestly that's half of my parties too though I drink too and dance. I can morph into whatever I need to be for that time whether or not it really interests me

Yay, congrats on the Yuletide draft! *\O/* I hope you'll also feel better soon. Good luck for the editing!
Another busy day for me, although at home choir rehearsal and going to the cinema wasn't what hindered the writing, but not feeling up to it, I'm a bit sick.
I tried to work on my Maglor WIP again, to overcome that passage where I'm stuck since three days. I managed to squeeze out 250 words, but this went NaNo-fashion: needs to be completely rewritten or deleted later on, but necessary to overcome a stubborn block in the story. But I think I'm over it, so I'm satisfied.

Thank you!

Sorry to hear you're feeling a bit sick. Hope you get better soon! And yeah, sometimes you just need to write through something so you can get ahead, no matter if you can write it right or well at that point. It'll probably come to you later, or you'll find out it's better than you think (sometimes that happens, too!).

Are you me? I think my first Yuledraft was even more words, and I managed to hammer it down to 7+++k. Subtracted more words today, hurray! No writing the day before, though :(
