I've got a trope_bingo card! Because I realized what I need in this strange time we're living in is TROPES.

This looks like fun! (Er, kid fic can be just a fic with a kid in it, right? Or a character as a kid, or something? Doesn't necessarily have to be about a fandom character having a kid? She asks, after she has expressly not opted out of that prompt and has already generated the bingo card. (I like kids, but I prefer writing just some kid rather than writing about someone being a parent, because I know a lot more about the former.)

Also now I have an excuse to write wingfic and can claim it's just because it's placed so strategically on the card.

And thanks! The community mod said the same in reply to my sign-up post (when they checked out the card I've got and saw my question) so I guess I'm good. Kids are fun to write, I think, it's just that all I know about parenting is stuff I've picked up from friends and family. And sometimes I feel discomfort with the way fics about characters having kids present it as the be-all-and-end-all purpose of life for everyone so I prefer not to go there so I don't have to deal with untangling that.

Yeah... I don't really seek out kid fic, because I'm not sure what I want to get out of reading it, but I've read and enjoyed some fic with the trope. At least for me, the appeal isn't usually reading about parenting? Maybe it's more to have a different point of view in the story, or to have interactions with a different type of character (which may or may not involve some parenting aspects).

You've solved everything!

And, yeah, some of the prompts can be quite specific with trope_bingo (given the name) unlike other things where they're more open to interpretation, but I'd say kidfic can be things like regressed to children, accidental child/baby acquisition, or any other means of involving a child.

I'm afraid not quite everything (it doesn't, say, create a vaccine, or resolve all those stupid political issues) but at least it should help solve the matter of keeping my sanity!

I'm not into age regression stuff - I specifically took that prompt off the list - but children are entertaining in general, as long as I don't have to know too much about parenting and so on. Kids can be nice little chaos agents in stories, and exploring characters' pasts is fun.

yes, kidfic just means there has to be a kid in it, it doesn't have to be a character's "own" kid. (I hate that trope, myself. :D) It is in kind of a strategic location in the corner there. Oi.
