It occurred to me I could be nice to my followers and LJ-cut everything but the ongoing week of the tally.

Thanks to staying up so damn late last night with the Yuletide fic, I got just 4-5 hours of sleep because I had to get up pretty early. I'm really not so good at sleep deprivation. What was making it harder to go to sleep was that my brain suddenly was hitting me with tons of fic ideas and I couldn't stop thinking about them. But, going out in the morning was lovely. Around 8 am, the sun isn't anywhere near up yet (it gets up close to 9.30), so the moon was pretty bright and high in the sky, and there was the slightest cloud cover, so there was this beautiful shimmering rainbow-ish/reddish halo around the moon. At the same time, parts of the sky were clear enough that I could see Jupiter, as well as some of the bright stars like Vega that could still be seen against the lightening dark of the sky.

Anyway, was out and about around the clock today, nearly all of that time in company of a friend and we talked a lot. I had fun, but with all that and the lack of sleep, I'm very very tired now. Might be smart to go to bed early tonight!

Today's writing

Despite the exhaustion, I managed to get over 270 words on a Doctor Who fic just now, which is more than I expected now. Maybe the tiredness helped, because my brain could just run away with me. *g* Originally I thought this could be a Public Call treat (it started from one of the requests), but there's no way I'm finishing it by deadline, and goodness knows when. Well, maybe I'll find a way to gift it at some point if I finish it.

I did it! Or, well, I did something, at any rate, and have uploaded my Yuletide fic. It needs so much editing, but it exists, and it is a story, and it has been posted (despite the trouble AO3 gave me), and that's what matters. Right?

Well, maybe I'll find a way to gift it at some point if I finish it.

If the person is also doing Fandom_Stocking, that might be an opportunity? Lots of people are.

Congrats for doing it!

Right! That's where I stand, too, except that AO3 didn't give me any trouble. Good luck with the editing!

And yeah, Fandom_Stocking is a possible option - if I get it finished by then either. :-) I don't know for sure yet, but I think this one might get kind of long. Well, I'm sure I'll find a way.

I've got several DW fic ideas, either in the idea stage or with something written but nowhere near finished, so... I don't know if any will make it for the treat deadline, but maybe I'll have things to stuff stockings with!

Or there's always NYR - that's what it's for, after all. :)

Well, not for Doctor Who. ;-) But I have several treat ideas for Yuletide, too, so that's an option I'm definitely keeping in mind because it's unlikely I'll get them all written in a week, with all the editing I still have to do. :-) It seems that once I start writing fic, my brain floods me with ideas for more...

More editing for me! With any luck, I'll be able to finish and post this thing on Monday, and then I can start to think about treats, yay.

Good luck with the edits! I have so many treats I want to write, hope I get something done. :-)

i wrote up my concert experience, and then 580 words of treat -- I might be on a roll! Hopefully I manage to finish it by the 18th!

Glad you had fun with your friend! and my goodness, your morning sky sounds beautiful! we're so polluted in Asia -- light pollution as well as the garden-variety pollution -- that clear skies are very much a luxury.

I'm off skiing 19th to 21st, though; so wordcount's likely to be somewhat less. But let's see!

That sounds great! Good luck for the treat-writing!

I always forget how lucky we are here in some respects - while of course we have pollution, too, the nature in Finland really is relatively clean, and the light pollution, while it exists, is not nearly so bad as in some other places. Even our biggest cities are small by international standards, and I live pretty far from the centre, so it's not bad. The skies have been lovely recently! And with winter, we have ridiculous amounts of stargazing time if it's clear, since the sun is up less than 6 hours. Of course in the summer it's light almost all the time so you don't see many stars, but the evenings are gorgeous.

Have fun skiing!

We spent most of the day yesterday with my mother-in-law, pre-celebrating Christmas with her since she's away over the holiday. Due to an accidental lactose exposure I was unwell afterwards and for the night, with no writing happening, but I wrote some 100 words in the morning of an original Christmas story that suddenly crawled out from under the bed, wanting to be written. It's a translation, or rather retelling of a snippet written ages ago in German, and I also spend some time with thinking about what to keep and what to change, if that counts. ;)
I'm fascinated by your moon halo description! And the time of the sunrise. It's different to know about this in theory, and to hear somebody telling about it. Each time we travel north I observe how much that changes, and how much it influences the rhythm of the day. Three weeks ago in southern Denmark it was already quite a difference to here, in the south of Germany; although the larger differences I only know from July. The farthest north I've ever been was to lake Siljan in Sweden, in July, where it didn't get fully dark anymore.

Sorry to hear you were unwell yesterday! But nice that you got some writing done in the morning. Just to check, did you mean yesterday morning (17th)?

Glad if the description managed to convey anything at all, it was pretty hard to come up with words for it especially seeing how tired I was. Yeah, the sunrise/sunset times here... I mean, this is the south of the country, in the north the day is shorter yet. In the most northern parts of the country there is a time period when the sun doesn't come up at all. I've never lived that far up north (though I've lived further north than this), but I've spent a Christmas once in a place that would have no sunrise for a few weeks. It was fascinating going out at noon, seeing an indigo sky and the sort of golden-red glow on the horizon that you'd have well after a sunrise or before the sunset, but no sun.

I remember, when I was a kid, reading the sunset/sunrise times every day in the newspaper for different Finnish towns. In midwinter or midsummer, it was fascinating to compare them, because Finland is a long country in the north-south direction. So, near Christmas, down south you'd have e.g. sunrise at 9.20 and sunset at 15.10, somewhere much further north you might have sunrise at 11 and sunset at 13, and then there'd be things like "In Utsjoki, the sun will next rise on January 17".

In Finland it never gets fully dark in the summer, it's just some degree of twilight. August is the first time you begin to have properly dark nights again. It's a bit of a problem for me sleep-wise, keeps me awake unless I use a sleep mask to cover my eyes. Pretty, though.
