Doctor Who?

Just sticking to the series/episodes I've seen, obviously. (Which at this point is New Who 1-5 plus the first three episodes of Series 6 and those first four episodes of Series 10 that have aired so far.)

The character I least understand

So far I feel like River Song is escaping my grasp, though I generally enjoy her scenes. But I haven't seen most of her episodes yet, so my mind may change about that. Oh, and I never really get the way Jackie Tyler is reacting to things. Except that her slapping the Doctor was fun.

Interactions I enjoyed the most

The Doctor and Jack are what sent me chasing after fanfic and made me start writing fanfic myself after several years' break, so I guess them! They're fascinating and the canon doesn't give us enough so I'm always wondering and wondering what else... I also really enjoy Ten and Donna together, as well as what we've seen of Twelve and Bill so far.

The character who scares me the most

So I don't find most of the villain characters scary at all. I've been the most scared by a) the child in The Empty Child / The Doctor Dances, b) Cyberman, c) the Angels, d) the Vashta Nerada, but none of them count as characters (by the time the child is a character, he isn't dangerous anymore). The Master a bit, or Blon Slitheen / Margaret from Boom Town because as we just discussed over at your journal, her kind of evil is disturbingly real. It's also scary how I end up feeling sorry for her.

The character who is mostly like me

Nobody's much like me, really. Martha a bit, I guess. I get slightly Sally Sparrow-ish sometimes, too.

Hottest looks character

Jack, Bill, or Martha, depending on my mood.

One thing I dislike about my fave character

For this I have to decide who my favourite character is. Okay, so I'll make it easier by saying I'll leave Jack out because if anyone asks for Torchwood, I'll do him there (now that sounds nice... anyway). For the Doctor, his damn hypocrisy and the way he thinks he knows how everyone else should do things.

One thing I like about my hated character

I don't really hate anyone.

A quote or scene that haunts me

The whole radiation room scene in Utopia, especially "You're wrong". Keep coming back to that and thinking about what it means and where they can go from there.

A death that left me indifferent

Hmm, there are a lot of minor characters who die without leaving a mark on me, but when it comes to characters whose deaths probably are meant to have an effect on you, I guess Astrid in the Voyage of the Damned - you probably were supposed to care, but I didn't. I also didn't mind River's death in the Library much, though I like her character better.

A character I wish died but didn’t

I can't think of a specific one in the parts I have seen, but they generally go for near-miraculous rescues a bit too often, and sometimes it would feel a bit more honest if they didn't. Oh, and what's-her-name in The Planet of the Dead could at least have died to make that episode sightly better; I didn't care for her.

My ship that never sailed

Depends on if we count Doctor/Jack as sailing or not - it's kind of half-canon, what with Jack definitely having feelings for the Doctor and the Doctor flirting back but not really happening in the usual shippy sense in the canon we see. I haven't really got a lot of other ships here, though. I wish we could see Jack with Doctors other than Nine and Ten.

(Edited to fix grammar and HTML. Several times, sorry about that.)

Yeah, that's no surprise. I'm looking forward to hearing what you think once you know the whole story!

So I don't find most of the villain characters scary at all.

No, me neither, not even the ones you mention.

For the Doctor, his damn hypocrisy and the way he thinks he knows how everyone else should do things.

Yeah, and I'd dislike it a lot less - in fact, probably wouldn't dislike it at all - if I didn't get the impression, way too often, that the show wants me to agree with him when I don't.

I still haven't forgiven Ten for Harriet Jones, or the show for not making him at least admit to being wrong.

That was pretty much my reaction, too, so I hope you're ready for still being in that place ten years later. *g*

Completely agreed! Moffat does it more than RTD, too, and it frustrates me incredibly, to the point where I'm actually happy every time someone's genuinely dead and staying dead. Which I'm sure is not the effect he's going for, LOL.

I'm curious what I'll think of River once knowing everything, too! We're obviously not getting her story all in the right order. :-)

No, me neither, not even the ones you mention.

I'm such a scaredy cat. :-D And yet the show rarely actually scares me, so yeah.

I know what you mean! I hate it when the show won't admit he's being hypocritical or annoying. It makes more sense when it is a point that he has a flaw, rather than the show being as self-righteous as he is. I didn't like what Ten did to Harriet Jones either, but if the show had made him admit he wasn't right or someone had properly called him on it, it would have been okay as a character point. The show is also contradicting itself there: first she's supposed to be the architect of Britain's Golden Age, then soon after she's elected the Doctor helps get rid of her.

That was pretty much my reaction, too, so I hope you're ready for still being in that place ten years later. *g*

I look forward to it! *g* I hope someone's still there with me at that point.

Moffat does it more than RTD, too,

Yeah, I've noticed an increase in that since I started watching Moffat era, as well as a tendency for Moffat's episodes in RTD era to do that. And yes, I bet the intended effect isn't for you to get happy whenever someone dies and stays dead. :-D

Exactly! That's what I mean! There are characters I love who have much worse flaws than this, but I don't find them frustrating because the narrative acknowledges them as flaws. With the Doctor, the show sometimes does, but then sometimes it doesn't, and it's really annoying.
