Dear Chocolatier,
Sorry I only got this letter up now! Hope it helps. You’re super-awesome for offering whatever you’ve offered out of my requests, and I look forward to reading what you come up with. I’m offering some prompts for each relationship, because I’m a writer who enjoys having something like that to work with. If you prefer to work without specific prompts, just skip them and check out my general likes and DNWs. Or if a prompt/idea/like leads you to another idea that I didn’t mention, feel free to go along with it as long as you avoid the DNWs. Feel free to combine relationships and prompts.
General likes:
- happy endings
- Mild to moderate angst with a happy/comforting/hopeful ending
- Hurt/comfort (leaning rather towards the comfort than the hurt)
- Friendship and found/chosen family
- Historical settings, space, and nature
- Daily slices of life
- Banter
- Canon divergence AUs
- Underappreciated characters or ones with low self-esteem finding validation, confidence, appreciation
- Women being awesome, women supporting each other.
- LGBTQ+ characters
- Characters enjoying food, treats, drinks (preferably non-alcoholic) etc. I have a very strong fixation with tea
- Characters enjoying some form of culture, e.g. books, theatre, music, dance (I’m a ballet enthusiast), paintings etc. or geeking out over things like history, science, tech, languages etc.
- If you want to write porn, go for it - though I do like my porn to have some plot beyond just the sex descriptions, but the plot can be about the characters’ emotional experiences or how their relationship is portrayed in the sex. I may add what I like to read about in sex, but I’m honestly too tired to get that list up tonight, so you can come back in a couple of days to see if I’ve added it. Sorry!
General dislikes and Do Not Wants
- Gore, descriptive violence, permanent character death.
- Characters feeling suicidal or doing self-harm. I sometimes enjoy such fics when the theme is handled well, but I can’t nearly always read them, so it’s better not to offer them in a gift.
- Domestic abuse / abusive relationships, especially between the requested characters or any canon pairing they’re in, whether I like that pairing or not.
- Non-con, underage sex, characters being uncomfortable with the sex they’re having
- Character bashing, including of non-requested characters. If you don’t like a particular character, just leave them out of the story.
- Mpreg, A/B/O
- Wildly different AUs of the coffee shop / high school / college / werewolf / vampire / pirates / etc. variety. I probably would enjoy space AUs for the fandoms that aren’t already space.
- Doctor Who specific note: for any Jack Harkness relationships taking place during Torchwood era, please don't devalue or break up Jack's relationship with Ianto Jones, regardless of who you're pairing him up with. They can have an open relationship or the fic can just not discuss it, but I don't want his relationship with Ianto to end or actively not matter to him. Also, generally prefer not breaking up canon pairings, though you can just not allude to them, or make it an open relationship. Thanks!
Doctor Who (2005)
So much to choose from! I have so many relationships I’m interested in this show, both gen and shippy, but it seems I’ve chosen to focus mainly on all the Bill and all the Jack.
Bill Potts/Heather
- some of their adventures after the end of S10
- AU where they spend more time together when at least one of them is still fully human, maybe even go travelling with the Doctor together
- Heather helping Bill come to terms with everything that happened to her. Lots of hurt/comfort potential here.
- I would also love to see more of Heather's past explored. She seemed sad and lonely in The Pilot, and lacking confidence both in herself and her feelings towards Bill. What happened to her before we met her? What kind of journey did she take?
- Also, it could be fun to have them meet some other Whoniverse character, since they can go anywhere. Feel free to combine with any other Whoniverse relationships I’ve requested, or prompts I’ve given.
Bill Potts/Amy Pond
- They they could meet in many possible ways: Bill and Twelve meet up with Eleven and Amy (or Eleven, Amy and Rory), and Bill and Amy have a thing there. Or, after S10 when Bill can travel in time and space on her own, she is also able to go to Amy’s life when she and Rory have got stuck in the past. Or she could point out to the Doctor that if he just goes to meet them somewhere else than in New York, he can go.
- They’re both strong and vibrant personalities, but Amy has a hard time being open and reaching out to most people. How does Bill overcome that and reach her?
- Bill and Amy have a love affair, and Amy writes Bill into a novel. I could so see Amy writing some thrilling anonymous 1950s lesbian romance.
Bill Potts/Martha Jones
- Twelve meets up with Martha for any reason during the S10 era, maybe he needs her expertise or misses her or just happens to meet her; Bill and Martha meet there, and crush on each other.
- They run into each other when Martha is travelling with Ten and Bill is travelling with Twelve. Timey-wimey hijinks ensue. Or perhaps Bill comforts Martha for her trials during S3.
- Somehow Bill and Twelve end up around for the Human Nature / the Family of Blood episode. Ten/John Smith won’t have any idea, but they influence the story in some way. Bill and Martha have a tryst.
- Bill meets Martha in her new time-and-space travelling existence after S10.
- AU for the S10 finale, so Bill doesn’t get turned into a Cyberman, and in whatever way she ends up adventuring with Martha at some point after that.
All the Jack/Doctor relationships (Nine/Jack, Ten/Jack, Eleven/Jack, Twelve/Jack, Thirteen/Jack)
- Dealing with any of the sore spots in their relationships, such as Jack being left behind, the Year That Never Was, etc.
- Not having to deal with the above because they already have is also nice.
- Jack finally getting to buy the Doctor that drink. Or a date. Something fun. An adventure.
- Dealing with Jack’s immortality, what it means to the Doctor, why he doesn’t mind anymore (as he says)
- Meeting out of order
- Really far in the future fic, where Jack has lived much longer, has grown from a lot of his angstiness in Torchwood, and his outlook has changed. (I don’t care for Face of Boe fics, though, because I’m not that fond of the idea and prefer to think of it as a joke from Jack. Mostly because I like Boe as his own kind of weird alien. And Jack would know about him.)
- Missing moments: Any adventures or other moments happening between The Doctor Dances and Boom Town. Meeting in between any of the Doctor Who canon since S3.
- Jack’s missing memories
- TARDIS tech geekery, working on the TARDIS.
- The Doctor using Jack’s Factness to deal with some time-related problems, fix something bad that happened in canon, etc.
- Jack meeting any of the post-Ten regenerations for the first time — or them meeting him for the first time, if they’re meeting out of order and Jack has already met them.
Jack Harkness / Martha Jones
- connecting in the aftermath of the Valiant and comforting/helping each other
- dealing with their feelings for the Doctor, and discovering feelings for each other
- Missing scene during Torchwood S2
- Meeting at some later point in their lives, including when Martha is much older than in the canon we see.
- Martha helping Jack deal with some of the bad things that happen to him.
- After the canons we know for them, or in between, they have an adventure together
Jack Harkness / the Eleventh Doctor / The Doctor’s TARDIS
- I just love the strong bond of the TARDIS and the Doctor, and adored their interactions in the Doctor’s Wife when she was put into a human body, and because I also ship Jack/Doctor, my immediate thought was that I wanted Jack/Doctor/TARDIS. Also, Jack has a special relationship of his own with the TARDIS: he’s travelled aboard her, of course, but he’s also worked on her tech, then there’s the matter of S3 where she first ran away from him to the end of the universe, then in the end he saved her from being a paradox machine by destroying the paradox machine. Lots of interesting ways to go there.
- You could have the Idris form come back in some way, the TARDIS keeping a back-up, etc. and Jack and the Doctor interacting with her that way.
- Or, Jack and the Doctor have a relationship, or sex, or both, and the TARDIS participates through her telepathy.
- Or they can have sex with the TARDIS as a TARDIS. I’m sure Jack will find a way. Lots of ways, probably.
- TARDIS maintenance as a form of loving her
- They travel together, the three of them, and have a deep, loving bond.
- The TARDIS saves the Doctor and Jack in some way.
Eleven & Amy & Rory
- Any cute or fun moments aboard the TARDIS, during the adventures.
- Amy saving the Doctor and Rory.
- I would have loved to see them in more historical settings! Special points for gabbling about clothing, Amy or the Doctor flaunting historical standards, etc.
- That being said, I also love them on space settings. Maybe some good old space opera or gritty spaceship / space base adventure.
- Anything where it’s made clear Rory belongs aboard the TARDIS for himself, not only because of Amy.
- Meeting other companions the Doctor had or will have later. Special points for Amy bonding with any of the female companions.
- Something where they support each other emotionally.
- I enjoyed the Doctor getting frustrated with ordinary daily life in the Power of Three and needing to divert himself endlessly; anything where the Doctor comes in conflict with everyday human life and Amy and Rory try to make him deal.
- I am also fine with shippy fic for these three! But I requested the gen version because I just adore them as a kind of a chosen family, there’s a really strong bond between the three, and they’re so much fun. But if OT3 speaks to you, go for it!
Torchwood
Note: I haven’t so far come to terms with certain things about Children of Earth, so I would prefer focusing on the canon of S1 and S2.
And I adore Torchwood team dynamics as well, so feel free to include any or all of the other team members.
Jack Harkness/Ianto Jones
Things that I particularly like:
- BAMF!Ianto who is capable and gets things done and can handle Jack Harkness, to the extent that anyone can handle Jack Harkness. I do like a capable Ianto. Of course he can and does have vulnerabilities, but he is also pretty kick-ass in his way, and I don’t buy that Jack would be the only one with power in their relationship.
- Many possibilities for missing moments from the canon. What can you do with a stopwatch? All the tense times they must have had during S1. The Date. The aftermath of Adrift. Aftermath of S2.
- Anything involving Jack dealing with the Year That Never Was in Doctor Who S3. Please avoid too excruciating detail about what happened (see DNWs), but dealing with PTSD, nightmares, telling or not telling Ianto about it, seeking comfort or not seeking it though he needs it, how it reflects on the adventures we do see the team having during early S2…
- For that matter, Jack dealing with any of the other horrible things that happen to him and the canon forgets to deal with.
- Dealing with odd creatures coming through the Rift
- Exploring Jack’s office kink through Ianto’s office duties.
- Some excuse for them to travel in time and space
- Meeting any Doctor Who characters that Jack knows (or even ones he doesn’t)
Toshiko Sato & Ianto Jones:
- Capable introverts rule the world.
- Geek bonding.
- Friendly hurt/comfort after any of the devastating times one or both of them go through.
- Ianto is the only person in Wales who can make green tea the way Tosh likes it.
Jack Harkness & Toshiko Sato
- pre-canon interactions. Tosh has been in Torchwood for a long time, and the history of how she came to be there is interesting and intense. How has their relationship evolved?
- Exploring the aftermath of Greeks Bearing Gifts more (including the fact that Jack pretty callously killed the woman Tosh was in love with, but on the other hand she was manipulating Tosh, so Jack did it for her good)
- A missing moment from the time when they get stuck in 1941
- Tosh’s reaction to Jack’s return, or Tosh’s reaction to anything in S2 we don’t see her react to
- I’m not particularly interested in seeing them as a pairing, but if anyone really wants to write her into a threesome with Jack and Ianto, I’m not going to say no.
Mary (Greeks Bearing Gifts)/Toshiko Sato:
- Even though Mary manipulated her, she was good for Tosh in some ways, too: made her accept feelings she had tried to hide, made her appreciate herself and come more into her own. Maybe some good moments from their relationship?
- An AU where Mary isn’t evil or where she has a change of heart at some point.
Wayfarers Series — Becky Chambers
Rosemary Harper/Sissix Seshketet
- Daily slices of life aboard the Wayfarer (or visiting a planet)
- space awesomeness
- adventure
- the sex life of a Human and an Aandrisk
- their different cultures and how that affects their relationship for both good and bad,
- how to use bureaucracy to flirt and save the world
Sidra & Tak or Sidra/Tak
- Connection over their shared geekery
- mishaps involving Sidra’s extra bodies
- Sidra decides to find out what this whole fuss with sex is all about, complete with endless research on Linkings, while Tak decides she/he is very happy to help her/his friend find out, and might be motivated by anything ranging from being in love/lust with Sidra to academic curiosity about artificial human bodies
- Experiments in dating, kissing, etc.
- Sidra tries to figure out falling in love.
- Exploring Sidra’s sense-image library
- Them running into any characters from The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet.
Finishing School — Gail Carriger
Dimity/Sophronia or Dimity & Sophronia
- Secret schoolgirl romance
- Shenanigans on missions
- Discoveries about sex, kissing, flirting, etc.
- Applying their special courtship and etiquette skills on each other
- Anything involving the delightful oddities of their school lessons, Vieve’s odd gadgets, the supernatural set, or fine young ladies things
Sophronia/Monique or Sophronia & Monique
- scenario where they are forced to cooperate, and perhaps discover they like each other more than they like to admit (in either gen or shippy way) , or have more in common than they like to know.
- having them on opposing sides of an intrigue
- Some school antics or other scenes set during the series, including sniping at each other
- Hot hate sex
- Grudgingly admitting the other is rather attractive
Sophronia & Dimity & Sidheag & Agatha
- Any school hijinks, nightly escapades, oddities of their lessons, perfecting their fine young ladies / assassins skills
- Future fic where they’re out of school and cooperate on something, or just have tea together and compare notes
- Friendship moments
- Any of the girls being sad and being comforted / cheered up by the others
- Something where Agatha turns out to kick ass
Parasol Protectorate - Gail Carriger
Genevieve Lefoux / Alexia Tarabotti or Genevieve Lefoux & Alexia Tarabotti
- Shippy: they have a fling somewhere during or after the book; or AU where Alexia gets together with Geneviève rather than Lord Maccon; or in some way Lord Maccon is convinced to have an open relationship (hmm, how would they convince him?) so Alexia can be in a relationship with both.
- Gen: any adventure, ladies being awesome and supporting each other, Alexia helping Geneviève out with the hive or her romances.
- Geneviève being commissioned to do some inventing thing for the pack. Hijinks may ensue.
- More travelling!
- Going to a ball or some other event together with Geneviève dressed as a man. Or any other things where they have fun with her crossdressing.
- I would absolutely love if Madame Lefoux’s awesome mad steampunk inventions and Alexia’s smart dress sense had a place in the story.
Genevieve Lefoux / Imogene Hale
- Sexy or romantic times somehow tied to mathematics or tech gadgets
- Other sexy/romantic times
- Who knows about their relationship? How do they deal with it?
- Imogene learning to come to terms with having thought herself wrong for her sexuality, and Geneviève learning to accept it.
- Comforting Geneviève about any of her past tragedies.
- Hanging out with other characters from any of the Gail Carriger books
- How pleased Alexia is about them getting together
Biffy / Professor Lyall
- Anything set during Timeless after they get together. Bits of their relationship, romantic moments, sex, daily life, other werewolves teasing or bugging them, anything! I just want to see more of these two during that brief happy period.
- Meetings, letters or pining when they’re separated.
- I haven’t yet read Romancing the Werewolf, but I mean to order it very soon, so I expect I will have by the time the stories go live. Feel free to write something set during or after that story.
- Anything set before they get together in Timeless which shows their growing feelings for each other.
Alexia Tarabotti & Lord Akeldama
- How did they become friends?
- Any entertaining banter, gossip and other fun
- The occasional sweet, touching moment in their friendship, such as at the end of the first book when she helps him see the sun.
- Lord Akeldama’s endless pet names
- Stories of Lord Akeldama’s exploits in history
- Political intrigue
- Child-rearing shenanigans during Rue’s childhood (or teenage years)
