So I just wanted to say that I've been watching the Fifth Doctor era episodes on the Twitch marathon, and I freaking adore Nyssa.
She's so smart and sweet and just lovely and she loves books books books and knows science and her hair is so puffy and her sleeves are so puffy!!
Also, I get to ship her with Tegan and there's no question of that. And I like Tegan, too. Not as much as Nyssa, but she's pretty great. She's so resourceful and strong-willed. And I've been over the moon watching so many stories with two female companions who work together and are friends and sometimes save the men and totally own themselves. Even without the shipping potential they're great. But also. Shipping.
I like Five pretty well. Probably my second favourite Classic Doctor so far. It's nice to sometimes have a Doctor who's mostly nice and kind and gentle. He doesn't have to be so bloody difficult in every incarnation!
(Notes about the Fourth Doctor era: I loved both Romanas, her second incarnation maybe even more than the first. My feelings on the Fourth Doctor varied a great deal. He's definitely interesting and memorable, but I also want to smack him a lot.)
But just. Nyssa. Nyssa Nyssa Nyssa. I adore her. Fangirling here very much yes. And I want her outfits. Except the Snakedance one. I might have worn that when I was sixteen, though. (I don't want Tegan's outfits. Though the air stewardess uniform is super cute on her.)
I'm sad that Nyssa's last story is airing tonight and then no more Nyssa for me on this marathon. There's a bunch of serials I haven't seen or only saw bits of, though, so I guess I'll be ordering more DVDs soon.

Date: 2018-07-13 01:26 am (UTC)Five is a sweetheart, which means that when he does something ruthless, it really hurts. (In a good way, if you know what I mean...)
You'll be heading towards Six now. *chews nails* He's a fave for me but his TV stories are a bit... IDK. There was a lot of turmoil behind the scenes and it kind of shows. The Big Finish audios though, are amazing and make me wish I could have had that story quality for the tv series.

Date: 2018-07-13 07:45 am (UTC)Yeah, I love both Romanas definitely! And I want their outfits, though probably only Romana II's would actually work on me.
I've heard that Six doesn't get very good TV stories, so at least I'm prepared for that when his stories start airing next week. Btw, it was so odd watching Arc of Infinity with Colin Baker playing that not-so-nice guard on Gallifrey. Even though I haven't seen his Doctor yet, I've seen plenty of pictures and he's very recognizable looking, so I'm like "look, what, Six is threatening Five!". I bet there are many fanfics which explore why Six had to play the part of the guard unknown to his predecessor because of timelines.
I've been generally getting into Big Finish audios lately and been surprised how much good stuff there is. Some of the Torchwood audios I've listened to are better than the TV show and seems like they're going all sorts of places the show didn't go but should maybe have. And though I've only started scraping the surface of Two era audios, they've been really great quality stories, too. (Though I'm not so much a fan of the fact that because the actors' voices have aged, they have to set it when Jamie and/or Zoe are old and remembering stuff, and they do it like they really haven't had the memories for decades and now someone/something makes them remember. Because in my firm opinion the ending of War Games is Totally Not How It Really went, and in case of Jamie I'm a firm believer in Season 6B, even though I haven't yet seen any of the material that sort of creates the possibility of 6B. I'm just... I refuse to believe some of my favourite companions would have just forgotten their adventures with the Doctor. I already had to deal with it with Donna, I'm not capable of accepting it as canon for anyone else. So in my mind, it's just not.)
