Write Every Day: Day #11
Jun. 11th, 2019 10:26 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
When I've posted this, I'm going to finally start watching Good Omens. I feel I'm so behind, but then again, this is me. The same person who discovered Doctor Who in 2015 and well, you've all seen the results.
I took today very easy, so I'm better now - though I took it easier than I meant to, as I've been weirdly dizzy and weak most of the day. I'm not sure what it is, but at least it's better now than it was earlier, so it's probably going to pass. It can't be heat, because the temperatures are back to reasonable levels.
I've lately been listening to the back episodes of a writing podcast called Write Brain, which deals with the psychology, thoughts and emotions of writing, rather than the craft itself. It's really interesting, the host uses her own experiences as (I assume) very honest examples, and the episodes are nicely bite-sized, with about 15-25 minutes for most of them, so it doesn't take a lot of commitment to listen to one.
I was going to ramble a bit about the topic of the latest one I listened to, but since I'm still not quite well, I'd better leave that for another day. Still, thought I'd drop the link to it here in the case any of you want to give it a listen.
Today's Writing
I did some research reading, and I wrote several hundreds of words of character notes for a side character. I noticed I felt uncomfortable about the storyline I've been thinking about related to that character, but I'm not sure if the discomfort is because it's the kind of thing the story needs exactly because of the reasons I don't like it, or if the discomfort means I shouldn't go that way. I suppose that'll become clear in time - at least writing the notes made me think about this more.
Later I also went through some of my unfinished or first-draft fanfics, and started polishing one of them, adding a bit over 100 new words in the process.

Date: 2019-06-11 10:46 pm (UTC)[day 10 was just another day of words not happening and quite frankly, an energy crash and a load of sleep. got some notes and some prose, but only 300 of prose. week 2 just hasn't been easy so far, i perhaps should have taken an alibi sentence day and stopped trying to force words out. *shrug* will bear that in mind for next time ]
[for day 11, i cancelled my social stuff, spent 5 hours on art and did some more of that sleeping stuff around cooking and refuelling. then sat down for writing hour, and got the 1k words out. currently having a sherbet lollipop to celebrate ]

Date: 2019-06-12 06:13 am (UTC)12th: About 1800 words of a new ficlet... I wasn't quite expecting that! (It's a missing scene/expansion of a canon scene, so it's not exactly ground-breaking, but apparently I have a lot to say!)

Date: 2019-06-12 08:20 pm (UTC)Wow, that's an awesomely productive day! It's kind of amazing when a story just takes flight like that, isn't it? And who cares about groundbreaking, I know I'm happy to read all the missing scenes / expansions of canon that I find in my fandoms. :-)

Date: 2019-06-12 11:21 am (UTC)So I can totally relate to you feeling behind! And I hope you're having a lot of fun with Good Omens. (I've put that on the back-burner for a while, too, as we've just started to continue with GoT, and found we hadn't even finished Season 5 when Siljan lost interested and we stopped watching it on DVD.)
Thank you for the podcast link! It sounds very interesting. I tried the latest episode, but I'm afraid this is one of those which are un-listenable for me. Due to my sensory issues, I can't listen to certain sound qualities, particularly very jarring/squeaky voices and the dull breath and bumping noises you often hear on unedited recordings. Unfortunately, this podcast seems to combine all my sound issues, and I find I can't concentrate on what they're saying due to it. Turning down the volume doesn't help as it then gets too low... Perhaps I'll download an episode and try if it's getting better with a simple editing as soon as I'm trough with reinstalling my desktop.
For my tally: Monday (the 10th) was a great writing day for me; I wrote a long blog entry, wrote new scenes for the edit of the joint story project, and wrote over 1k for the joint story project at our weekly session in the evening, which adds up to 2,8k, plus over an hour of editing for the joint story project as well. On the other hand, yesterday (11th) only brought me about 35 new words written on my phone, although I managed another hour of editing later on.

Date: 2019-06-12 09:01 pm (UTC)I gave up on Game of Thrones ages ago; it was too violent and brutal for me and even reading reviews/recaps makes my mental health issues flare. I'll much rather watch Good Omens!
Ah, sorry the podcast didn't work for you. I'm also pretty sensitive with auditive stuff; I'm not on the autism spectrum or anything, just your garden variety high sensitivity that's especially strong on the auditive stuff. But clearly my sensitive points are different from yours, since this podcast doesn't bother me, so I probably won't know when to warn you for possible problems, alas. I do wish she had a better microphone, but it's good enough that I can listen to it, which doesn't go for all podcasts I've tried. I frequently can't listen to even much recommended podcasts because I can't deal with someone's voice or accent, so I understand you, even if I didn't have those issues with this podcast. I'm sure there are plenty of other good writing-related podcasts out there that you can listen to more easily. I don't know a lot of them, but if you want to try something, you could give Writing Excuses a try; they've got very good sound quality and at least I personally haven't had problems with their voices. The approach is different, but they have writing prompts and such which is a nice bonus. :-)
Congrats for such a productive day for Monday! And an hour of editing on Tuesday is great, even if you didn't write a lot of new words.
