Here is the second day of Write Every Day in December. If you don't know what this is about, check yesterday's post. Nice to see both old and new participants joining this month in my journal!

*distributes virtual tea and biscuits to everyone* I hope everyone has as good a day of writing as possible!

Pretty frosty day outside - no snow, but a faint layer of frost covering the trees, the dead leaves on the ground, etc. I woke up unusually energetic today. I seem to have the concentration of a small rodent, so it's hard to stay still and write much though I have time, but at least I used my distractedness to clean up around here, which is useful. The dust was starting to make me cough a bit...

Today's writing

I managed a little over 600 words on my Yuletide story, yay. Much of what I wrote today feels kind of meandering, but I think I managed to introduce a bit more conflict, which the story was lacking. I might get there yet! I'm about to go visit a friend soon, so I don't know if I have time to continue later, but at least I got this much done.

How was today's writing for everyone else?

Tally

Thank you for hosting this month!

I did write on the 1st, as well as today, though it was an alibi sentence in both cases. This week has been crazy - I'm so glad I've finally reached the weekend.

Looks like you're making great progress on your Yuletide story! I think I'm getting a bit lost in research for mine. Maybe I should just go back to canon and go from there.

I'm having fun hosting so far, and I think this month it'll work quite nicely for me. :-)

All right, I'll add you to the tally! Figured you probably had written and just didn't get around to commenting yet. Glad you've reached the weekend, I hope things will get less crazy now and you can also have a bit more time for writing.

Going back to canon sounds like a good solutions if it feels like you're getting a bit lost in the research. Good luck! I still feel like my story's a bit all over the place, but at least at this rate I'll hopefully have plenty of time for editing...

Good luck with write every day! I just finished NaNo, so I'm not writing anything other than journal entries until tomorrow to take a break. I'll likely attempt it after that though

Thank you! After NaNo a break probably comes in useful and well deserved, yeah. :-) And congrats on finishing!

If you want to join this challenge later on, though, just start dropping comments into these posts. :-)

Mmm, virtual tea and biscuits.

I was dead tired and only managed a couple paragraphs on my Yuletide story. Surely it has to end soon?!

If you were all here at my place, I'd offer the real thing. :-D Tea and biscuits are my writing fuel.

Ah, neverending Yuletide stories, sounds familiar. Good that you at least managed those couple of paragraphs despite being tired. You'll get there!

Only about 300 words for me. Tomorrow I really need to do some outlining so I'll know where to go with this...

Yeah, sometimes it's good to pause for an outline so you know where the story is going. Good luck!

Too busy for proper writing time today, so just ~370 words on a drawer fic today to wind down. I have this huge monster of a series of drawer fics that all fit together in some way, all in one enormous document, written over the years for my eyes only, and I'm writing a few scenes or more, or new parts of it when I need to unwind or unstress, get something off my head, or just want to write for the pleasure of it and for having fun without paying attention to research or detail.

That series of drawer fics sounds like a good thing to have so you can turn to it when other writing doesn't flow, or you want to write without stress about what it will be like, etc. I also like periodically doing some writing for my eyes alone, though most of the time it's just random snippets or poetry. But sometimes it can come together to a more connected whole.

Yes, it works for me exactly in the way you're describing, plus also as keeping in the writing flow when I don't have any current project. I used to just have snippets or scraps here and there; I've always been writing small things since I was small. Then I discovered fanfic about ten years ago, but eventually lost my writing mojo completely after some unpleasant experiences in fandom. With a new fandom and new people the writing thankfully came back, including the important realisation that I need to write for myself first, not for others. My "drawer monster" helps me better than anything to always keep that in mind, and it grew into a kind of parallel universe in my head. *g* By now it's got over 404,000 words.

I hear you about needing to keep in mind that you're writing for yourself first, not for others. Though I do want to tell stories, which needs an audience, but I also enjoy it for my own sake even if everything doesn't ever see the light of day.

Sorry to hear you had unpleasant experiences in your previous fandom. I've had some unpleasant experiences in the past, too, though the reason I didn't do fanfic for years was because I was focused on my original stuff. But I think I became a bit too disciplined and was losing the fun and wasn't trying out enough new and different things. That's one of the things I want to fix by returning to fanfic - and I just can't resist Doctor Who inspiration. :-D A nice and supportive fandom is very helpful for the writing!

I am not sure if I said thanks for hosting yesterday, but, thanks for hosting! :)

About 400-500 words for me today, on NaNo. I also opened my Yuletide story (that I wrote back in October and sent out for Beta) and the comments from the betas. Morbane beta'ed the story and gave me such amazing feedback about characters and character development, and now I need to figure out how to use the feedback. Between this feedback and beginning to think about the second draft of my NaNo novel, I feel like I am either about the level up as a writer, or be stuck just below the "level up" for a while, while I beat against that ceiling before I figure it out. Ha.

My pleasure! :-)

Yay for getting great and useful beta feedback! Good luck at figuring out how to use it! It's rewarding to notice you're making progress as a writer, isn't it? Or at least that you're probably soon going to. :-)

I wasn't home most of the day. Only got another 133 words on a steampunk Christmas story

It's always hard to get a lot of writing done if you're gone most of the day, so good for getting that much at least!

So true. It'll be a rough writing weekend as all my writing time will be spent writing final exams to torment my anatomy students with.

Hello, new friend ;) Your frosty day sounds nice! No new words, but I got some editing done yesterday, and today I posted fic, and edited my Yuletide story and got it ready for beta.

Hi there! Just checking, because time zones are swimming in my head now (I had a prolonged nap and am quite drowsy) - when saying yesterday and today, are you reporting on the 2nd and the 3rd? Or 1st and 2nd?

Sorry I haven't replied to your message yet, by the way, will soon. :-)

Time zones are indeed confusing! I think I mean 2nd and 3rd ;)
