Happy Solstice, everyone! From now on, the days will get longer on the northern hemisphere. About time, says this Finn. All our snow is suddenly gone and the day was overhung with thick grey clouds, so it was as dark and dreary as this season can be. Times like this, I can't help wondering what on earth my ancestors were thinking. I've been drinking obscene amounts of tea today, which may give me problems sleeping tonight. But I was so tired, it's such good writing fuel, I found out I had such good tea, and on the darkest day of the year I'm allowed to indulge myself, right?

All other Christmas presents except one is taken care of, and that one I can do just by going online - now, how do I make myself remember to do that one? Also, need to wrap the presents that have a physical form. That's always a challenge. I'm not one of nature's own perfect gift-wrappers.

Today's writing

More editing of the Yuletide fic, and I think I'm finally starting to get there. Most of the difficult stuff has been sorted out now, I hope, though I still need to balance out some things. I'm starting to wish I'd have got around to finding a beta who knows the canon, though, so I could run it by the eyes of someone else who knows the characters. It just feels so difficult to start doing that kind of stuff...

I'd like to do something else yet, maybe work on a treat or something, but right now I probably need to get off the computer and do something else. Read, exercise, clean up, anything.

Yay, solstice! I'm so ready for the days to get longer again, and it's not nearly as dark here as it is up where you are.

About 2,000 words today.

Thank you! It's been slow going lately, so I'm really glad about it.

Whee, nice word count!

Absolutely ready for more light! While to some extent long dark evenings can be cozy, after a certain point it becomes overkill.

I edited a WIP chapter, and then managed to write a few paragraphs of a treat. It's still terribly unstructured, but I think it's at least going somewhere.

Yay for treat going somewhere! I wonder if I'm going to get any treats written - I still haven't started any of them. Oh well, there's always NYR if the story ideas persist.

Blessed solstice to you, too!
Times like this, I can't help wondering what on earth my ancestors were thinking.
*g* On the summers when it gets so abysmally hot in Germany, and we're gratefully holidaying in Sweden or Norway, I know why I would have moved there! ;o)
We have the dreariest winter imaginable so far, although I don't complain as I don't have to shovel snow. It's mostly humid and foggy, or around freezing temperature, but I'm missing the sun.
*highfives* for the teadrinker! :D I drink a lot of tea, too, of most kinds - black, green, herbal, spices, although I don't really care for fruit tees, Roibos or Honeybush and such. I'm so used to drinking black tea even in the evening I usually don't have any problems with it, thankfully. I don't think I could function without tea, even if it's just herbal.

Your edit sounds good, too. I've been very busy again today (cooking and canning red cabbage for preserves, baking, choir rehearsal), but still managed about 500 words of the first draft of my pinch hit. I don't know yet if I'm keeping this story idea, but at least the draft is promising enough. We'll see.

Oh, well, yes, the summer temperatures are usually a blessing. Of course, most people here complain about it, but I'm not that good with heat unless it's in a sauna. But it's the other half of the year that can be a problem... And well, not the temperatures (I'm fine with cold) but the darkness. It's cozy to some extent, long dark evenings with woollen socks and tea and a good book to read, but at some point, too much is too much. :-P I'm pretty sensitive to the light levels, so the darkness tends to drain me. I prefer proper snowy winters, but alas, they're not that common here. *grumbles* I'm used to real winters, not these on/off ones...

Oh, a very eager tea-drinker here. I think I've gotten myself used to the caffeine as well, because it didn't bother my sleep at all that I was still drinking black tea around 7 pm, though previously I've had to stop caffeine intake earlier than that. In the warmer seasons I mostly drink green and white tea, as well as some herbal things and rooibos (but those last ones aren't really tea!). But in the winter I enjoy a lot of black tea as well. I just discovered that this Chinese black tea I got from one of the tea shops is really good. I've also discovered pu'ehr recently, it's different but can be really good. I've conditioned myself to always have a mug of something hot with me when I write...

Glad you managed that much writing despite being busy!
