Aurora's Sundry Notes

Hello, hello! I've had new friends arrive recently from the Yuletide friending meme, hi, new friends! And hi, old ones, because I've been a bit random about posting. I try to become more frequent again. Today's post is just about recent fanfic fests and fics I've received and written. Which reminds me, I finally managed to finish my Chocolate Box letter the other day, so if anyone wants to take a look, here it is!

Fandoms are Doctor Who, Torchwood, Wayfarers, Parasol Protectorate, and Finishing School. Lots of prompts for various relationships! There probably are more fandoms I could have requested, but considering how long the letter turned out, it's no doubt good I didn't. And I was trying to be brief. Ish.

Anyway, fandom_stocking went live this week, and I got many lovely gifts in mine. I got several lovely fics, of the Doctor Who and Torchwood kind; by trobadora, navaan, as well as marginalia, missanotherboat, firefly124 and angelus2hot. Do check them out! Also, I got three ballet icons by kate, suitable for a beginner dancer like myself as I had hoped, so now I have some appropriate icons for rambling about my ballet classes; also, book recs from cornerofmadness (a considerable bunch of LGBT themed sf/f recs!) and dunderklumpen; as well as fan art and greetings.

I managed three fics myself; naturally not all that I wanted to write, but still, three. And I'm learning how to make stories comparatively short, ie. around 1,000 words. Here are the stories I wrote.

It was for torchwood_fest; the prompts were winter and Christmas themed, and while I don't usually work with Christmas or other holiday themed prompts (winter, for sure, I am a Finn after all) this story came to me and I was rather happy with myself for managing something not terribly fluffy out of the prompt "holiday treats". When the fest closes, I'll put it up on AO3 as well, but for now, here have the link to the journal posts:

I was quite happy the way this turned out, personally. The fest was originally supposed to end last weekend, but it was extended, so we'll see if I have time to edit the other Torchwood fic lying on my computer. I hope so, the world needs more Tosh femslash...

On a final fannish note, I started watching Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries tonight, and I think I'm in love. With the series and especially with Miss Fisher.

It's been such a busy week I haven't even had time to make a Fandom Stocking post! But oh, my stocking was lovely - Doctor Who and Torchwood ficlets, Torchwood icons and astronomy/space icons (I need to make room for them, ie. just buy the user pic add-on already), book recs, general greetings with lovely graphics, and even new friends! It was so much fun! Even with my terribly few fandoms, I got many lovely gifts.

Here are the fics and ficlets I got:

navaan wrote me a lovely little Martha & Rose fic: Good Old Rose. I was so happy someone picked up that prompt I'd had in Public Call, and this was exactly the kind of thing I'd been hoping to read! Girls being awesome and liking each other - there's not enough fic of that kind, and I so much wanted to see a positive connection between Martha and Rose!

cornerofmadness wrote a nice Torchwood ficlet with a Jack/Ianto moment during an adventure Bryn Celli Ddu

cookielaura also wrote me a Jack/Ianto fic: Other Benefits If you read it, and have been paying any attention to my journal, I'm sure you'll know why it meant I had to instantly friend her. *g*

Several comments in the stocking also give me interesting book recs, especially scifi and historical fiction!

I'm glad I did this fest, it was great!
