Write Every Day, June Day #14

I may be a bit more quiet over the next couple of days, as I'm not-at-home and posting conditions aren't ideal. I'll try to reply to the Write Every Day comments, and at least get the check-in post and the tally up as usual, but I may leave other comments until I'm back at my usual place.

Today's Writing

I typed up the description of my nature outing last weekend from my diary, and rewrote it to work better as a travel writing exercise. Which also nearly doubled its word count. But there were parts of the diary entry that were pretty usable on their own, just a few wording changes, so that was nice. I may still look at some of my fics, but I really should go to bed soon, as I've actually promised to be somewhere at an hour that more self-disciplined people consider normal.

ETA: Oops, 662 words of new fic. Looks like the Cottoncandy Bingo is providing ideas. Now seriously going to bed!

Today I've been working on a CYOA fic - planning and writing bits of dialogue. So far I have a little over 400 words of actual fic plus notes.

[a day of bad mental wiring means i missed my inflated word count goal by quite a bit, but i did manage over 800 so i'm not dreadfully behind overall. i'm calling it a victory ]

Sorry to hear about the day of bad mental wiring. I'm familiar with those myself, so I understand how hard it can be to create a lot on such a day. But that definitely sounds like a victory especially on such a day! Regardless of what your goal was. Goals can be done on better days. :-) Hope today has been better, or tomorrow will be. *offers virtual tea and chocolate*

Trying to figure out if Marinette and Adrien find out about the Beast and the castle by (1) going with Maurice to the fair (2) going with Belle after Maurice (3) going with Maurice after Belle. Option 3 screws up the fewest minutes of the movie but is the one most likely to screw up the timing at the castle and end in death and heartbreak. Also it kind of looks like Belle spends a couple months at the castle, at least, and Maurice spends the vast majority of that time lost in the snowy woods???

(A friend suggests time runs at different rates inside and outside the castle gates—after all, Chip doesn't seem to be any ten years old yet and remembers being human, and the level of punishment the Enchantress dropped on preteen Adam for being a bratty eleven-year-old always did seem excessive—but now I have to figure out the differential and shit.)

it is not written in any great detail but it is written and it is more comprehensively written than I expected it to be when I said "I do not want to write this" and started typing it

Sometimes that's a good way of working off an idea that you're not ready to start writing yet but that wants to make itself known. And then you've got stuff down for later if it turns out to be the right time to write that.

Good luck with figuring out the timelines and such for the crossover, too! To me, suggesting that time runs differently inside the castle gates makes total sense to me, all things considered. :-)

Yay for new words! Who needs sleep anyway? Lol!

I spent most of the day with a former student turned friend, who's in town only for a short time before heading back to his PhD program across the country. He's smart and funny and thoughtful and well-read, and we always have a delightful time catching up. Once home, I wrote another 791 words on the H50 fic.

I need sleep. :-D But, writing makes me happy and happiness makes for better sleep quality overall, so I'm sure it all works out in the end!

Glad you were able to have such a nice day! Sounds like a very pleasant way to spend a day. Congrats for still managing to write quite a bit afterwards, too!

15th: 398 words on a new flashfic. Hopefully I can a) keep this one relatively short, and b) work in a dialogue prompt from my reading list. :-)

Good luck on both of those counts! Trying to work prompts into fics can be fun as it can inspire some extra things you wouldn't otherwise have thought of.

More ruminating on bookish things... another 600 words or so added. I don't know where I'm going with this, but we'll see. Some of it's relevant to the bookshop novel, some of it's essay material. All of it's just thinking out loud for now!

Ruminating on bookish things is always relevant, I say! And sometimes it's great to just write out thoughts and ideas and whatever and then see later where they might end up. :-)

I did write on something today, getting it nearly to completion, but tonight was part two of the home improvement project, and so I didn't have much time to write anything.

I need to try doing this! I often collect ideas and impressions from travelling etc. for writing, and note them down as quick drafts. But writing a proper scene out of them would be much more useful and helpful, I think. Thanks for the inspiration!
In addition to my currently usual editing, I wrote a bit over 1k for a possible new story, inspired by re-watching a movie.

Have fun trying that! I don't do that sort of thing often enough either, considering how much diary and notes I do write. Though it turned out my friend preferred the version that was almost straight out of my diary to the one that I'd polished up and rewritten. ;-)

Isn't it nice when totally different things you're doing - like watching a movie, reading a book, taking a walk or whatever - inspire new stories unbidden? Sounds like you had quite a productive creative day. :-)
