Write Every Day, August Day #26

First off, a couple of organization things for Write Every Day folks. Apparently the posts are becoming too large for crossposting to LJ, and last night's crosspost failed, and I only noticed when trobadora pointed it out to me. I edited it by removing the links to most of the earlier posts (if you need them, you'll find them in the pre-25th posts), and now it works, but it means some LJ folks may have missed last night's post. So if you're looking for the check-in post for the 25th, please scroll further down on your feed, or get the link from the tally on this post. (And I'm removing the first 10 days from the LJ edition of the tally, because it still insists not on crossposting. I'll edit them into the DW entry, so you'll see the early tally on DW if you need to.)

Second, did we have a volunteer for September already? I seem to recall someone volunteering tentatively, but I can't remember who, it's been a few months since then.

Anyway, last night I slept for almost 10 hours, and another hour or so in the afternoon, so I guess I really needed it. And I didn't seem to wake up much for most of the day, even if I was theoretically awake... Only managed to do the gentlest yoga, a little bit of a walk outdoors, and eat more take-away. But in the evening I went to see The Lady of the Camellias in the Finnish National Ballet, and it was marvellous. I'm not keen on the book, but this was a very touching adaptation of the story, and everything was so beautiful and emotional. It was the second performance of this production, the first performance of this cast, and they were amazing, especially my FNB darlings Eun-Ji Ha and Ilya Bolotov in the lead roles. It was amazing, and totally worth it, even if actually getting out of the house and going somewhere and paying attention to something for two and half hours used up all my spoons for the day.

Writing

I finally managed to do edits for my Rare Pair Fest fic, and got a bit rushed as about 1 hour before I had to leave for ballet, I remembered the time for reveals is really today, not "some time next night" as it often is for my time zone. Well, due to emergency pinch hit need, the stories still aren't revealed, so I might be able to check out I didn't leave in any glaring mistakes in my rush, if I have the energy. I also worked more on my Femslash Exchange letter, which was left sadly unfinished by the sign-ups. And I really do have to get my letter done, because my requests consisted of relationships and "for details, please see the letter" so the letter had better have some details. If only I had a brain...

I had a good writing day, and I finished editing my RarePairFest fic too, just in time for the planned reveals! Which are of course delayed now, as you say. What kind of jerk deletes their fic at the last minute?! *sighs*

I had problems with the cross-posting too - I solved it by replacing the DW usernames by LJ ones (most of us have accounts on both sites, after all).

In writing terms, I worked on the app, writing the opening paragraphs... Tomorrow I'd love to have half a draft finished, at the very least!

I believe I was the volunteer! And I'm still up for it, even if my posts might end up being a lot of 'didn't write let me cheer you all on instead' at this stage - or maybe it'll inspire me to write more alibi sentences at the very least.

I don't have an LJ anymore though, so it'll be DW only with anon/openID commenting welcome. If that's an issue for anyone and there's someone who crossposts willing to take the torch, I'm happy to concede it. Otherwise, happy and available to take on September.

I wrote another 271 (post-coital) words tonight from my new house, the first creative writing I've done here. We're not actually moved in yet--that happens on Monday, I hope--but I brought my laptop over to check our internet connectivity, and then I had a little down time and thought that it seemed appropriate that slash fanfic should be the very first product of my writer's brain here in this new place. After all, fanfiction has brought me so much over the years, and I felt like honoring that gift.

Anyway, I'm glad I could share this milestone with you. Thank you for giving me the motivation and opportunity.

I'm glad you had a good writing day! And especially yay for finishing editing the Rare Pair Fest fic in time! But yeah, who does that kind of thing to the organizers of the fest? Not fair. Seems like the pinch hit has been successfully created since the stories went live now, though, so all's well, at least.

I remembered there had been such a problem before, but of course I forgot to take any precautions before my posts got that large... There seem to be a few ways to get around this, at least!

Thanks for volunteering! And perhaps it will inspire you to write more if you're posting every day about whether other people have written. It's possible! :-)

Hopefully it's not a problem for anyone if it's DW only - I do believe most participants have DW accounts. I'll ask in tonight's post if anyone minds that they'll have to post in anon/openID commenting if they don't have an LJ. But since more activity is moving to DW these days, it makes sense that the challenge can be held on DW only, too, if the current host doesn't have LJ.

I did it in a similar fashion: using DW or LJ usernames depending on which journal people commented, so they'd also get a ping-back. Somebody suggested to me keeping the code in a plain txt-document and copy it from there in each new entry, which also worked well.

Turns out I could have spent most of the Sunday editing it if I'd wanted, but well, I didn't, and I don't think it would have made a big difference anymore.
