auroracloud: A woman in a white dress, sitting by an open window and reading a book (woman reading by window)

Thank goodness it's weekend. I've been ready for it ever since, uh, Tuesday. Yes, I know that Monday was a holiday. I'm going to reply to the rest of the comments tomorrow, because I need to hit the bed soon, sorry!

I was super-tired tonight, and when I finally forced myself into an upright position again, I was sucked into a historical novel about Ada Lovelace. Which made me want to write a historical novel again. Much of my original writing in the past years has been historical fiction, but the current novel-project-to-be is not. I will write it, though, before succumbing to the temptations of one of my historical stories, I will, damn it! Because I don't have the energy now for all the research a historical one would take, so it would postpone novel-writing by months again, and I need to get around to writing something in a focused manner. So cease your temptations, historical novel ideas! I'll prepare you in the background (there are a couple of research books I need to get around to buying, the state of my finances be damned!) but I'm going to write my contemporary story as I've planned!

Today's Writing

With all that reading, I didn't manage to write much, but I jotted down a scene idea and a couple of sentences of writing for it, as well as a paragraph for the fanfic in progress, all amounting to a little over 100 words together.

Any writing is good writing when you're both tired AND being tempted by historical novel ideas! :-)

I wrote 1003 on "The Donner Party" this morning.

Today I worked on the non-fiction project. Not as much as I wanted to, because I have another bleeping cold. Augh.

Day 6 was mostly reading for me too. Surprised to find I managed 859 words anyway, pretty much by accident. Camp NaNo may not be helping me progress with my planned projects, but I'm getting inspired by everything I read!

I totally hear you on the research-for-historical-fiction. One of the main reasons why my main novel project is fantasy is just that. *ahem* Lots of sympathies also with the energy and exhaustion issue, I hope the weekend will help you a bit! *hugs*
For me, it's weird: I'm far more productive than expected, and also much more than before when I had more time and leisure. But then, it's often like this for me: when I need to keep a lot of balls in the air I'm more productive generally, as if my brain's going into hyperdrive, but that never lasts long and ends in another exhausted spree again. *sigh* Anyway, more editing and about 200 new words for my WIP, about half an hour on the meta project, and over 500 words for a brand new drawer fic novel I don't really have the time or headspace for, but which wants out.

I love history, too! :o) I'm a historian, after all, even if it was my minor (although at my uni there was no difference between major and minor in requirements). That's probably also my problem with writing history, too: I tend to obsess about historical accuarcy and researc, and the periods I'd like to write in (early and late Middle ages and early French Renaissance) are so vast and complex, and of the little I know I've also already forgotten so much again, I'm intimidated by the sheer amount of research I'd need to just work out an idea - and avoid writing about something that has already been written about ad nauseam. World building, on the other hand, is the easiest part for me... ;o)

I rejigged 3,500 words and slotted them into my WiP, which is great but it completely josses an upcoming chapter, so I've somewhat made a rod for my own back there. Still, it has to be done.

You can do historical reasearch for aaaages before you have to lay down a single word. It's an excellent procrastination tool.

aaa, I totally dropped off the WED wagon for a while there, but I have been struggling under a pile of work writing as well as Smut Swap, and there have been many words from me over the last couple of weeks (two SS stories, currently 12,000+ words, in various stages of editing; perhaps there will be more!). Thus far exchanges have been good for me; I'm hoping to sign up for NPT and Rare Males and our fandom exchange, which will probably occupy most of my summer writing.

I love historical fiction, and I totally get the desire to read and write it ;) Best of luck for your contemporary story, and sending you good thoughts for many writing words!

I definitely wrote every day, even when it was like pulling teeth -- currently struggling with edits! -- so you can totes edit me in if you feel like it! And, aw, NPT is my fave bc that's where my fave fandoms sit: Les Mis and X-Men and Hannibal. Maybe this year I'll add DCU Extended Universe, which is I think on the cusp of eligibility?

ETA: if you were at all up for writing RPF (say Dr Who RPF ;) ), that seems to be an exception to the must-be-bigger-than-tiny-Yuletide-fandoms requirement!
