Write Every Day, September Day #11
Sep. 11th, 2018 09:45 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
Today it's been cool and cloudy and rainy, and I went for a walk and got rained on! That made me happy. I suppose people usually don't view that as a good thing in my corner of the world, but after the sweltering hot, dry summer, I've been aching for some cool autumn days and rain. Too bad it's supposed to clear up for a few days and also get warmer, but I hope that the autumn will soon continue its advance. More rain and clouds my way, please! They're so soothing and lovely.
Today's Writing
I worked on two separate femslash ficlets, 700 words in total. Though I'm not sure if one of them is really going to work, because the timelines don't quite match as well as I thought. While I was researching to find out if the timeline would work or not, I got sucked down the rabbit hole of what classic Who stories exist in the form of novels, short stories, comics etc. I'd probably have written more if I hadn't done that.
I should also write something for the travel writing assignments that I and my friend are trying to get back into doing. We're doing that thing together so we'll each get something written, rather than just think "One day I'll try to work on travel writing". I'll see if I feel like drafting a bit for that before I start calming down for sleep.

Date: 2018-09-12 01:30 am (UTC)I wrote 263 words in the very small window of opportunity I had between arriving at home and then changing to go back out to a local book reading and signing. It was a fun event, and I'm glad I went, but boy did it take away all of my writing time!

Date: 2018-09-12 06:31 pm (UTC)Glad you were able to get some writing in before the book reading! And at least it sounds like a good reason if you have to give up most of your writing time for something. :)

Date: 2018-09-12 06:31 am (UTC)I worked on the nonfiction project in the morning, after which the day went downhill, so I only managed an alibi sentence for fiction. Oh well. It's a good sentence.

Date: 2018-09-12 10:35 am (UTC)I didn't manage to check in again yesterday, sorry! I fear might not be able to check in daily from now on, too, as the house painting now starts in earnest. (Btw, somebody asked me some details about it, was that you? I know I didn't manage to comment on that yet, but can't find the question again, ashes on my head...[which is a German saying and probably incomprehensible or weird or both in English?]) It also got hot here again, around 30°C-ish, which makes everything more exhausting again since I already unlearned to cope with heat. *sigh* Good for my veggies at least, and for the outdoor work....
I wrote abou 700 words on the 10th, although most in correspondence, and posted my second WIP. This was even more complicated than usual, as it's a joint text and photo story, and getting the code bits for the images right with various sizes was a bit of work. *phew* But I'm really happy with the result, also content-wise; it's one of the best things I've ever written and done. I even already got reviews for it from one reader, one probably the loveliest review I ever got! :o) They compared the story to a beautiful indie arthouse film.
Yesterday, I even managed 1,4k, most of it writing-related correspondence as well. But I'm shamelessly going to count that, and there were a few new words on the drawer edit.
I also found the neatest html code guide for AO3, too, in case somebody is interested.

Date: 2018-09-12 06:45 pm (UTC)That sounds wonderful about your second WIP that you posted (I guess it's no longer a WIP, then), and I'm happy you had such a wonderful review! Those kind of things just make the day, don't they?
And ooh, thanks for the link, I'll have to check out what they've got there that I don't know. (Also, I sympathize with the author about having learned my HTML in the 1990s and using the tags I do.)

Date: 2018-09-16 08:58 am (UTC)So far we're doing prep work - sanding down the woodwork, priming the wood where necessary. We have one of these wood facades with rounded, decorative vertical strips every 10cm, which makes everything a bit more time intensive, although it looks very pretty. I intended to start with the first coat of paint yesterday afternoon, only to find they mixed up the wrong colour! *headdesk* We're using a special, long-durance paint from Norway, and our colour (Falurød) has to be mixed up as it's no longer a staple of the company. Wouldn't be a problem if they had the base in the desired amount in the local shop (which is still a 40min drive from here, which I find a bit annoying), but that has to come from Hamburg or even Norway and takes at least 3 days, rather 5. You also don't open the buckets until you start painting, to not let get too much air to the colour, so I discovered only yesterday that they sent us a lovely - blue.
We still have a lot of prepping to do, so we're not out of work, but as we might not be able to finish this autumn (we can't get a scaffolding right now, all booked out for the rest of the year) it's not advisable to do it also on the parts we can't paint already, so we can't do all we can reach without a scaffold, and might lose a whole week of good weather until we get the proper colour.
and I'm happy you had such a wonderful review! Those kind of things just make the day, don't they?
Yes, absolutely! And even more so, in hindsight, as there have been only two more reviews otherwise. I'm currently wondering if my increasing tendency to write drawerfic instead of fics for publishing is indeed the fact that I get so little feedback.

Date: 2018-09-12 04:51 pm (UTC)(And you can have all the rain and clouds, as far as I'm concerned! They're coming here tomorrow, and I don't want them. Getting rained on inevitably has me ending up with a bad cold.)

Date: 2018-09-12 06:47 pm (UTC)I'll just happily get all the rain and clouds, then! The summer was so horrible for me with all the heat and no rain that I've been fantasizing about the autumn rains for ages. Though I do normally prefer to have an umbrella if I go out when it's raining. :) And of course if it tends to make you sick with a cold, I understand you'd rather not have it!
