auroracloud: vintage drawing of a woman and a lamppost against a text background (Lovelace - fan)
Long con day behind me. It actually went much better with the panels today, probably because there was so much more programme going on that people were spread out more. I got into almost every panel I wanted, and really, I probably should have done a bit less of them, because I'm really tired now. But I did get some time to hang out with friends and collect ribbons and generally lounge about in the fannish spaces. Tomorrow I plan to take it a little easier with the programme. But it's generally been good. I enjoyed all the panels I went to, but the best one was the first one, about historical fantasy (including Heather Rose Jones, Juliet Marillier, Aliette de Bodard etc.). A really interesting topic and great contributions from the panelists.

I walked past the George R.R. Martin signing queue an hour before the signing would begin, and it was already epic.

Writing

With all the con stuff, I didn't do much writing, but I sneaked in a bit of work on my Rare Pair fic in my notebook during a quiet moment in the con Fan Lounge. I wrote about 100 words more at home, but now my brain is just shutting down. At least I'm getting towards the end of the first draft.

My today's WorldCon participating mainly consisted of getting familiar with the convention, seeing what there is and where everything is. Also, I managed to get into the concert of the two geek women choirs, Another Castle and Riverside Castle (the queue was looooong, but the room was big, too). They began the concert by singing a choir arrangement of the Doctor Who theme! How could you not love that?

According to my friends (and just about everyone who tweets about the event) the rooms for the panels are mostly too small and it's hard to get a seat in them, so I think I'm going to have to change my plans from "attend all the interesting panels that are not on at the same time" to "pick out a few really interesting ones, camp out well in advance for them, and spend the rest of the time just hanging around, gawking at cool stuff, collecting ribbons and books and goodness knows what".

Writing

I meant to do writing in the early part of the day, but I didn't, so I just added about 250 words to my rare pair fic in the evening - I really hope that the day I finish it will be soon! Also, I signed up for [community profile] missy_fest. By the way, so should you, if you're a Doctor Who fan who likes Missy and would like to participate in a remix fest that remixes Missy into fics! How awesome is that?
