Write Every Day, August Day #9

My today's WorldCon participating mainly consisted of getting familiar with the convention, seeing what there is and where everything is. Also, I managed to get into the concert of the two geek women choirs, Another Castle and Riverside Castle (the queue was looooong, but the room was big, too). They began the concert by singing a choir arrangement of the Doctor Who theme! How could you not love that?

According to my friends (and just about everyone who tweets about the event) the rooms for the panels are mostly too small and it's hard to get a seat in them, so I think I'm going to have to change my plans from "attend all the interesting panels that are not on at the same time" to "pick out a few really interesting ones, camp out well in advance for them, and spend the rest of the time just hanging around, gawking at cool stuff, collecting ribbons and books and goodness knows what".


Writing

I meant to do writing in the early part of the day, but I didn't, so I just added about 250 words to my rare pair fic in the evening - I really hope that the day I finish it will be soon! Also, I signed up for missy_fest. By the way, so should you, if you're a Doctor Who fan who likes Missy and would like to participate in a remix fest that remixes Missy into fics! How awesome is that?

I follow the blog of one of the organizers of Worldcon, and he was lamenting the smallness of the panel rooms for the very reasons you cite here. I guess there was even a problem with one of the rooms set aside for Con business, and they had to scramble to get it set up the way they wanted it in time for a meeting. It sounds like you've got a good plan of attack for making the most of the crowded situation, though, and I hope you get to see/hear everything you'd most enjoy. :-)

I wrote 375 on the Steve/Tony piece. It took a 90-degree turn from where I'd been planning for it to go, so at this point, I'm just along for the ride. We'll see where these two stubborn fools want to take me. ;-)

Apparently there was quite a spike in membership sales in the last few weeks (oops, I also bought mine just a few weeks ago) and also they didn't expect quite so many people to turn up on the first day. Today it was already a lot better, because there were more programmes going on at the same time so everyone wasn't going to the same things. But definitely seems like if you really, really want to see something, make sure you've got time to go queue early. But it worked well for me today. :-)

Yay for more writing! Sometimes it's so much fun to just let the story show you where it's going. Hope you'll have fun along the ride!

I got most of my editing done so I can post my chapter tomorrow, with just a handful of things left to fix.

I'll keep my fingers crossed that you'll get lucky with the rooms tomorrow!

Thanks, I did mostly get into the panels I wanted. :-) That is always another problem in conventions (also in Finncon which I've attended before and which is smaller but kind of similar): too many interesting things going on at the same time. I'd always need a Time-Turner to see everything I want!

I've wanted to go to a Con for some time, particularly the RingCon in Germany, but chickened out so far, as I don't do well with so many people and would be totally overwhelmed with what to do, what to choose, and how to organise myself, and do nothing in the end - and then being utterly frustrated in the end. So I'm in total awe of everybody who dares to brave the masses! :D I hope you're having a lot of fun and can make great memories.
My tally is just a bit editing of my travel-drawer-fic last night, perhaps 15min? I'm likely not to do much writing in the next weeks, at least until the bulk of my travel pics are sorted (let's not speak of editing and uploading *g*), but I kind of need a bit of pause for my brain as it's still so full of travel impressions. But that thing also needs a lot of editing anyway right now.

I totally get why the idea overwhelms you - it isn't easy for me either, but I've practiced on a few Finncons and book fairs, and think I'm starting to have an idea of how to do it without exhausting myself. Though as there is so much interesting stuff, and lots of new things and new people to take in, it does easily get exhausting, and I have a feeling also this week I'll do a bit more than I really should. But my plan is to have today and tomorrow as the most active days, and take it easy in the weekends, when it'll probably be the most packed. And allow myself to stop earlier than I planned if it seems I need it. Hopefully that works out! But I totally understand people who find it would be too overwhelming for them.

Sometimes it's good to have editing rather than writing new things! They need different states of mind.
