Today, I got such a lovely comment on the Wayfarers fic that I wrote for last Yuletide. Generally the reception of that fic has been utterly lovely, and more than I could have expected, but it's been a while since the last actual comment, and this was so sweet.

(Oh no, I realised I still hadn't replied to all the comments that I got around Yuletide! Oops, had to go to fix that.)

Midsummer continues to pass peacefully here. It was a bit cooler here than on the other days, but I used that to go for a nice walk. Even if I got caught in a rain shower, heh. (But I sheltered under a tree during the biggest downpour.)

Today's Writing

I started writing a fic for who_guestfest, yay! I got 354 words on that, and spent some time researching for ideas and brainstorming how it will go. We'll see if I get it completed before the feast deadline. In the afternoon, I spent some time with novel research, reading and taking notes. And now in the evening I mostly finished editing my first Cottoncandy Bingo ficlet. I'll still want to look at it one more time before I send it to be beta-read, though. But as it happens, it's in the same fandom I got the lovely comment from today, so the timing feels particularly good.

a lil writing has happened thus far, and because it occurred to me at some ridiculous dark hour this morning to poke at Google Play and not just DuckDuckGo, I am now in possession of a free app to transliterate hanzi a la Wenzhouhua (the app has buddies for other languages written in hanzi) and that is going to make writing this fic distinctly easier.

(it doesn't transliterate all swears, though)

Yay for finding a transliterating app to help you with the technical side of writing your fic! Even if it's vocabulary has limitations...

I mean, I'm running with the notion that Marinette is fluent in Wenzhouhua and knows a little Mandarin, and let's be honest, the words a teenager is most likely to know in any language they know only a little bit of? the swears. Wiktionary has me covered on how to transliterate Mandarin swears!

Ahahaha, very true. Or alternatively, the words someone taught them when they wanted to learn the swears. I remember some people once telling me about how some Swedish guys had wanted to learn swear words in Finnish, and they taught them words for things like "lawnmower". *g*

But yay for Wiktionary coming to rescue! Also, increases the chances your main character won't be stuck with Mandarin for "lawnmower", as she can check. ;-)

yup! though I defy anyone to look at Marinette, knowing she knows exactly what 肏你媽 translates to in French, and telling her the way to pronounce those characters in Mandarin is "jiǎncǎojī", not "càonǐmā". the results would probably be hilariously painful for whoever pulled that on her.

I'm so glad you're having a quiet and lovely midsummer! Yay! :-)

I wrote 497 words on the H50 fic this morning before we headed out for a day of exploring a town on the Erie Canal about 1.5 hours from our home. We spent a lovely hour or so walking in a nature preserve with trails centered on a swamp. We saw SO many turtles and turtle nests with empty egg shells and all sorts of birds and insects. There were almost no others on the trails, too, and it was perfect walking weather. So lovely! Then we explored the town a bit and found a tiny, second-hand bookshop, where we each picked out a few books, and then went to the canal itself for a picnic lunch and another walk. This time, we got to watch a beaver for quite a while! All in all, it was a perfect day--relaxing, beautiful, and healthy with all the walking.

Sounds like such a lovely day! I don't think I've ever seen a turtle in the wild, and I definitely haven't seen a turtle nest. So fascinating! Extra yay for not having too many other people around, and for enjoying a lovely walking weather, too. Second-hand bookshops and picnic lunches also sound nice, and ooh, beaver! I don't think I've seen those in the wild either, though they at least do exist here. Well done for getting your writing in before the outdoors activities, too. :-)

[it's been a pretty nice midsummer here, the cloud cover finally relented so the pubs got flooded even though there's no real midsummer culture here. just a 'sunny weekend' culture ]

[my check in for the 21st is 800, and i hit the phone keyboard pretty hard today to try and make up the deficit that had built up, and i wrote 2.1k over the 22nd. i'm pretty much at 22k for 22 days now. not bad to say last night had 3hrs of art and the night before that had 8hrs /exhausted creatively ]

I think Midsummer is the biggest deal here in the Nordic countries. Glad you got to enjoy the weather, though!

Sounds like you're keeping up a great habit of productivity! 22K for 22 days definitely sounds good to me! Especially if you're doing art at the same time, too. Make sure not to exhaust yourself too much and take care of yourself - that's also an important skill for creative people.

But sounds like you're doing well at building up the habit, especially since you're managing to catch up when you fall behind your target. :-)

Sometimes (often?) our muses just won't behave and we get words on a totally different thing than we meant. But at least it means the creative juices are flowing, even if they're flowing in the wrong direction. Good luck turning them to the right direction and getting to your wipbigbang deadline!

Yesterday has been another day with lots of editing but just an alibi sentence of new words for me - on the other hand, I wrote a LOT after I reported my tally on the 21st, getting my total for that day to 2,5k. I still don't know how that happened. *g*
