Write Every Day - April Day #12
Apr. 12th, 2018 09:52 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
So tired tonight. When I'm done with this post, I just want to do a bit of an evening yoga and go to bed and read and hopefully sleep.
Today's Writing
I continued organizing my WIPs, this time with the Torchwood fics. I gathered all that I could find into a big Scrivener project, one file per story plus one for the random snippets that weren't yet a part of a full story - next I should sort through those and see what I've got there. Anyway, those came to over 18,000 words, and that's not including a longish one I put into its own Scrivener project a couple of weeks ago. I really need to start with goals to finish some of those WIPs! Anyway, that means that just between Doctor Who and Torchwood, I've probably got at least 40K words of unfinished (or unedited) fics. And I know I've got at least a couple things in other fandoms, too. It makes me feel oddly accomplished. Guess I did a lot of writing last year after all! Now I just need to go about finishing some of them.
Anyway, in addition to that, I wrote 105 words on the novel.

Date: 2018-04-12 07:31 pm (UTC)I wrote 1500 words today. I've got a long way to go to catch-up, but I know I can do it.

Date: 2018-04-12 08:53 pm (UTC)Managed about 1.6k of one of my most pressing deadlines, yay. Hoping to knock it and something else over tomorrow so the weekend can be all unpacking, crossing all the fingers and toes.

Date: 2018-04-13 08:32 pm (UTC)Yay for managing a good amount of writing on one of your deadline things. Good luck at finishing the stories, and with the unpacking!

Date: 2018-04-12 10:07 pm (UTC)I wrote another 576 words on that short story I started yesterday. The working title is "Theresa Goes to the Holy Land," but I'll need something significantly more, well, significant when I finish it, as it's meant to be a horror story and that one rather makes it sound like a seventies American porn film of a particularly seedy sort. ;-)

Date: 2018-04-13 08:56 pm (UTC)But in any case, yay for writing more of that story!
By the way, do I recall correctly that when you host Write Every Day, you need to do it in locked posts? Just so I can inform everyone correctly when the hosting switches over to you.

Date: 2018-04-14 12:25 am (UTC)I assume you'll include Sunday, and then I can link to your final tally post for Days 1-15 and start on Day 16. Is that acceptable to you?

Date: 2018-04-14 06:05 pm (UTC)And yeah, I'll still do Saturday and Sunday, and then let you take over on Monday for Day 16. A nice even split of the month. :-) And I'll try to get the tally post up early-ish.

Date: 2018-04-13 06:20 am (UTC)Another alibi sentence -- which turned out to be another good one. I keep being surprised by how useful these alibi sentences can be. Obviously they're good for helping to keep up the habit of writing every day, but beyond that, they're sometimes pretty useful in themselves. -- I've come up with a good opening sentence for a chapter, and another good sentence to end a chapter. Today's sentence was a nice bit of character development.
I don't do this on purpose, I just open the file to do the minimum, and write without thinking very hard about it. But my backbrain seems to feel that if I'm going to write one sentence, it should count. Or something! I don't expect this to happen every time, and expect I'll write a real dud now that I've said this, 8-), but it's cheering to realize that even writing a little bit can move things along. A little bit. 8-)

Date: 2018-04-14 06:08 pm (UTC)I'm glad you're finding your sentences good ones! Maybe it happens that when you only focus on one sentence, it can easily end up being a good one. And if not, at least you've written anyway! But yes, even just a little bit moves things along. Even if you write just one sentence every day, that's 30 sentences by the end of the month. If you write 100 words every day, that's 3,000 words in a month! Which can be a short story or a chapter or two in a novel. :-)

Date: 2018-04-13 10:40 am (UTC)I dropped out for a few days, but I got 852 words in today.

Date: 2018-04-13 02:59 pm (UTC)I also always love the nice amount of words I see in my collected files in scrivener. My main drawer fic scrivener, where I once started to first put them together, and then also write them together as much as possible, contains over 500.000 words by now. If I need motivation, sometimes I just need to look at that number and feel accomplished. *g*
Another 1k for my new drawer fic for me yesterday. It's a non-fantasy, present time story for once, and mainly taking place at an old farm in Bavaria. I actually managed to spend over an hour yesterday with some freeware layout tool to draw a layout for the farmhouse... *headdesk*

Date: 2018-04-14 06:12 pm (UTC)Wow, awesome drawer fic scrivener! I should maybe keep one like that, too. I'm also thinking I need to set up an idea scrivener. Because I'm one of those idea-rich writers who get more ideas than they know what to do with; and I often just write them down in random notebooks, but the chances are, I won't find them again later because I've written so many other things in the same notebook, too. Yet everything doesn't immediately become its own project, because that would get complicated, too. But in an idea scrivener, I could write as much or as little as I have, sort them by genre etc. and then have a look every now and then what I've got and which one I'd like to work on next...
