Write Every Day - April Day #13
Apr. 13th, 2018 11:56 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
Thank goodness it's weekend. I've been so useless most of this week. But this afternoon I got a massage, so yay, my neck isn't stiff and sore anymore! And then I got some Chinese takeaway. And then spent much of the evening reading, and went to Netflix, which was prompting me to watch Lost in Space, and I did watch the first episode.
I mostly enjoyed it, but whyyyyy does nobody ever wear a hat or something in winter scenes? If it's so cold that water freezes and you need a big warm winter coat and you're in danger of freezing, you cover your head. You absolutely have a hat, and if you don't, you at least pull your comfy fur-trimmed hood over your head. You lose so much heat through the head in cold weather. Sheesh, why don't the creators ask someone with actual experience of cold weather if they have none themselves? I know it may look cooler on the film without hats, but it kept throwing me right out of the story, since I know how cold you are in that kind of weather without a hat.
Anyway. Rant done. And oh, we have spring. First flowers are appearing!
Also, I haven't answered to all the comments from the previous post yet, but I'll get them tomorrow. Getting too sleepy now.
Today's Writing
I was too lazy to write much in the evening, but I did get nearly 200 words on the novel.

Date: 2018-04-14 01:18 am (UTC)Yay for more words on the novel! :-)
I finished that short story tonight, taking out quite a bit but also adding some. The story as a whole is at 1790 words, about 600 of those added today. I'm going to let it sit for at least a day and come back to it probably on Sunday to see what I think, but the revisions I made solved some problems I was having with resolution, and I'm fairly satisfied with how it turned out. I may have a different opinion once I've re-read it, though. You know how that goes, I'm sure.

Date: 2018-04-14 06:03 pm (UTC)Congrats for finishing the short story! I'm glad you managed to solve some of the problems for now, too. Usually it is good to let stories sit a day or two before returning to them. You always see things differently then, yes. Sometimes you may be positively surprised, sometimes negatively, often both. :-)

Date: 2018-04-14 09:02 pm (UTC)I frequently wonder this about actual real people on the street...why don't they wear hats when it's cold?

Date: 2018-04-15 09:44 am (UTC)And do you also get the teenagers (and others who count as Young People) these days going with their ankles bare even in the middle of the winter? My ankles hurt from just seeing them. In the same weather when I'm wearing felt-lined winter boots and woolly socks and am wondering if I need more, some folks are going in converse without socks or with socks that don't cover ankles, and trouser legs ending above the ankle... How hard is it to understand that this fashion developed in areas that don't get 0°C and colder and is not meant for Nordic winter weather?
