Write Every Day, June Day #27
Jun. 27th, 2019 11:36 pmSince we're nearing the end of the month:
carenejeans has offered to host July, is that still on? And has anyone offered for August, or would someone like to offer at this point? Of course we can find the host for August during July, too, but it's always nice if we can be sorted out a bit in advance, so thought I'd ask already.
In other news: why do fire alarms always start telling you their batteries are out when it's night and you're sleeping? I'm not sure mine have ever started that in the daytime. (And before you tell me I'm just more likely to hear it during the night, I spend a lot of time at home, and my favourite pastime is reading books and typing things at a computer without any background music or suchlike.
Well, mine started doing it around 5 am, which I'll admit is technically morning, but trust me, I've got a few hours of preferred sleeping time left after that. But perhaps because it at least wasn't in the middle of the night, I figured out quickly what it was (if I'm very drowsy it can take me a while) and removed the batteries so it stopped beeping. And I was even able to find the correct batteries in the supermarket, that is after I wandered around exploring all the other parts of the non-food department.
My headspace is getting better, thankfully. I should go to sleep, but I've got a bread baking in the oven and need to wait until it's done. I also baked the 3-ingredient raisin biscuits while I was waiting for the bread to rise. The ones that are made of mashed banana, oatmeal, and raisins, so it's practically a health food, but still yummy if you like those three things, which I do. I made a batch of nine, and ate three of them already.
In other happy news today, I got a comment on one of my less read ficlets (the most recent "Two and Jamie being super clingy and that's pretty much it" type of fic) that said "*a million extra kudos*". Should I consider it my most kudos-ed fic now? *g* At any rate, I'm happy some people like my cuddly fluff.
Today's Writing
I didn't really find the inspiration to work on anything new, or anything at all with some sort of deadline, but I managed to finish editing one of my just-because fics, which I rather like. I just need to get someone to look it over for any non-English bits or other things that need fixing, and then I can post it. It would be nice to have something happening for something I'm supposed to be writing, but actually finishing any of my fics in process is a good thing!
I also borrowed a couple of books from the library which might be useful for my novel, and one of them is really big and has lots of pictures in it.

Date: 2019-06-27 10:48 pm (UTC)Today, I had guests over, and as I hadn't gotten much sleep the night before and had a headache for much of the day, I'm calling it a win that I managed 45 words of freewriting.
I think I'm in a bit of post-posting slump. Part of me really wants to write another epic H50 fic, but the part of me that is a Responsible Adult Writer knows that she needs to get her ass in gear on her original projects. So... Tomorrow, I'll start the content edits on the ambush project and, perhaps, review some completed short stories to see what I can submit where. *nods decisively*

Date: 2019-06-28 07:38 pm (UTC)Any writing at all is a win in such a situation! And I understand being in a bit of a post-posting slump, or post-finishing phase, or whatever you want to call it. I think it's quite common for writers to take a while after a big project has been finished before being able to get really productive with another story again. After all, you just wrote a novella! It's the size of a real book thing! No wonder if it'll take a while to get back into gear after that. Good luck with your plans! Some reviewing and editing of existing stuff sounds like a good direction to go now. :-)

This is good, because serveral other exchanges are getting to the end of their nominations period and that will mean sign-ups soon.

Date: 2019-06-28 05:40 pm (UTC)Five a.m. may technically be morning, but to me it's in the middle of the night. Ugh.
Your biscuits sound great. I've been baking and baking, and now have too much bread on hand, even after giving some of it away. I was experimenting with my sourdough starter, which I usually leave in the fridge and feed about once a week. But I wanted to see how it tasted if I fed it every day and, well, you can see where that went. (1 usual weekly cracked wheat sourdough boule; 1 skillet bread that didn't turn out quite right, I think because the recipe called for too much baking powder, which made it taste metallic; 2 batches sweet monkey bread, one given to mom, 1 batch "pizza" monkey bread, half given to mom; 1 coffee cake for the Saturday morning coffee group at the bookshop.) Plus the usual batch of ciabatta rolls. Plus a pie for mom (her request: mincemeat! In June!)
I think it does taste better, but... maybe I'll feed it twice a week.
When I wasn't baking, heh, I worked on the nonfiction project & spin-off thing. I guess I'm taking a break from fiction for a while. Which feels weird. Hopefully it's temporary...

Date: 2019-06-28 07:50 pm (UTC)I agree, 5 am is in the middle of the night. Even if it's light as day by then here. Ah, northern latitudes!
Though I've had summer jobs where I had to get up at 5 am or earlier. The one good thing about it was that I got to see beautiful early summer mornings, which I usually don't. ;-)
Ooh, sourdough! The bread I was baking is rye sourdough (it's a Very Finnish Thing, dark bread made of basically rye flour, water and sourdough), and I'm starting to get the hang of it. I've been thinking I should also experiment with the wheat version, I'd love to try out that kind of bread as well. I mostly just bake bread rolls with yeast, but I'd like to branch out! But heh, sounds like you made a lot of bread! :-D But yes, maybe it's better to only feed it twice a week rather than every day, since you're not actually running a bakery.
