Write Every Day - April Day #14

The muscles in my neck, shoulders and upper back have been so sore today after yesterday's massage. It happens sometimes when you really needed the massage, the muscles get sore the next day. I just wasn't expecting it now, I didn't realize they'd been so tight. Hopefully tomorrow they'll feel better.

I was so heroic today and went downtown and shopped for clothes. Trust me, that's heroic for me, especially on a Saturday. I hate clothes shopping. I like having nice clothes when I manage that, but going through the selection and trying a hundred things on before finding something that's right, and the lights and the noise of the shop... It's just so much. But at least I like some of the fashions available this spring - it's worse when you can't find anything wearable. I did find most of what I was looking for, at least. Spent the early evening being quite drained. Didn't have nearly as much writing energy as I'd have wished. But I did let myself watch a Miss Fisher episode.

Today's Writing

I was working on the novel again, but didn't get the four-digit counts I'd been hoping for. A little under 500 words on the draft, plus some notes, fleshing out a side character.

I'm having lots of fun with Main Character 2's scenes and viewpoint. The voices and such come out so nicely. Of course it's still a very rough draft, but at least the feeling's right, you know?

That is the *best* feeling, when it's all just flowing, isn't it? That's wonderful! I hope you continue to experience it with your novel.

I struggled my way back into "The Donner Party" after a few days' hiatus for that short story, but I finally found my footing again and wrote 1073 on it today.

ETA: I meant to add that I have every intention of picking up the posting on Monday (4/16), but we're having a pretty wicked ice storm here and are expecting up to 1/2 inch of ice on everything and high winds also, so there are serious concerns about massive power outages if trees and lines come down. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we aren't affected, but just in case we are, I'll have to post from work on Monday (assuming that has power and my house does not) because I don't have a smartphone or anything like that, and my wifi will be out with the power. Here's hoping this is just an abundance of caution rather than a prophecy of near-future events. :-) Anyway, it shouldn't affect my taking over, but I wanted to mention it on the very, very off chance that both work and our home don't have power on Monday.

ETA2: I had meant to comment on clothes shopping. Although I do not have the same condition as you regarding sensitivity to noise and light, I do share your loathing of clothes shopping and completely relate to the relief you feel in being done with it. Yay for finding things you like and braving the shops to do it! :-)

Yeah, it's totally great when the story's working out. Though I wish I was less scatterbrained and more likely to concentrate for long stretches of time, I might get more done. Well, at least it's progressing. :-)

Glad you found your footing with the story! It can be a bit hard to return to a story after a break, so congrats for progressing that well with it!

Good to know about the possible weather-related problems. In the case you're totally unable to get online for a longer time, I can of course continue the hosting for a day or two. But I hope your power won't go out, not completely at least!
