Write Every Day, April Day #28

Looks like nafs will be hosting, and had volunteered already a few months ago, but I didn't know/remember, and of course with everything that's been going on, it's best to make sure anyway. It might be practical if we could come up with a way to keep a centralized list about who's offered to host when... I suppose it could just be a linked/pinned entry in someone's journal, or some other simple thing.

But anyway, unless there's a last-moment change, May should be in nafs's journal. But we've still got a few more April days left!

I did some more writing on the novel by longhand, and it was good. I meant to also do some more typing up of bits already written, but I don't think I did... Honestly, it's sometimes hard to remember what I did today and what I did yesterday because the routines of the days are very similar.

I haven't checked in in some time, but I've been writing a little every day. Alibi sentences for a lot of it, alas, but I've also been outlining a longer fic and writing a few snippets for it, and tinkering with another one on the side.

About 600 words for me today.

Going to have to focus on exchange fics in May, but I hope to keep making a little progress - at least twith the planning - on the longer one too. Good to know we have a host!

I didn't want to volunteer ysilme's services, but it happens that she's been keeping track of who has hosted and who has volunteered to host for some time over on zwei_hexen, which is why I knew who'd potentially offered for May. We love hosting and we are both dedicated to the WED cause, but we didn't want to come across as, I don't know, "in charge" or modding it or anything like that. ysilme began the list as a useful resource, and typically when we co-host as Z_H, we'll ask if there are volunteers for future months, and she'll add their names as tentative future hosts. That's how it all came about on our end. :-)

I'll come back and edit this to add my word count, as I haven't yet written for today, but I just wanted to let you know that there is a list of sorts.

ETA: I added the final 814 words to the first complete draft of the Bond/Q story, which, I suppose, will need a title soon. :-)

I definitely got the sense there *was* a list somewhere, but I had no idea where it was hosted. If ysilme wants to keep it up, awesome, if not maybe it's something each host could post with both their welcome and final posts of the month and then the next host could copy it forward and edit as people volunteer or need to drop out.

Heck, I know my welcome post is going to be mostly a copy of yours, with credit and a few interjections from me - you're good at this!

Thank you, and you're very welcome! We based ours on auroracloud's, so it's a group effect anyway. ^^ I'll put the post up later tonight or tomorrow with a link for you to post, if you like, auroracloud.

The not-list happened slightly differently; when we asked at zwei_hexen the last or before-last time, somehow people volunteered up until this May, so I just noted it down for further reference. ^^ But I'm happy to post this list also publicy and keep it up to date, as sylvanwitch and I are keeping the journal just for WED and nothing else.
But I think it's also a good idea for hosts to post the list for the next few months or so at their first or last entry for the month, so stuff is easier to find for first-time hosters.

Ah, that had totally escaped my mind! I feel I've known it at some point because it rings a bell, but I'd forgotten. But that is actually very useful, so it's super good to keep that opportunity in mind. After all, it's just a log of who's volunteered as far as you know - it can always change if people's situations change. Thank you for the info!

Ooh, congratulations for finishing the Bond/Q fic! That's seriously amazing! *big hugs* I hope that'll inspire me to finish something, too. (And I'd really like to try my hand at a long fic one day, anyway.) Good luck finding a title! I'm hopeless at those...

Phew! I'm so glad you understand. I always worry that I'll come across as trying to, I don't know, have authority or something over WED. Part of its charm is that the community travels, you know, and no one is burdened with permanent hosting or modding? But there are some housekeeping things that make it a little easier to keep it functioning, and ysilme has a lot more experience with those aspects than I do, so she just naturally keeps track of things like host offers. I'm glad we could be of assistance. :-)

And thank you SO much. It's bittersweet to be done, but at least I have a few days of editing ahead to ease into the idea of being done.

I have written things for a ttrpg character and that is about it, but that is still words. Today was pretty, I wanted to do body things, and this is what happens when I write long bursts sometimes. :)

Yes, that's absolutely words and definitely counts! And doing body things is important. Also it's totally normal that some productive days may be balanced out by ones that don't see as much writing. The brain needs some time to recharge, stories and words sometimes need time to percolate. :-)

Page and a half longhand. Not sure it's actually going to stay part of the scene, but they're at least in the location I need them to be, even if they're having kind of useless side conversations.

No writing ever goes to waste, even if it doesn't end up in the final version. And even useless side conversations can be good for getting to know your characters! You can decide later if it's something that needs to be in the story or not.

I've been writing! Sorry for not checking in. 8-( I'm still doing the same stuff, working on the nonfiction thing and writing alibi sentences -- though I fell down on the alibi sentences a few days. Sad... Anyway, I wrote on days 20 to 29.

I think zwei_hexen is an excellent place to keep a list of hosts (I didn't know there was a list of past hosts, great idea!) since it's only used for WED. Thanks ysilme!

It's all right, it's not a big deal to add you onto the missing days. But I'm glad you've managed to keep writing, even if it's not as much as you might have liked. It's still regularity and commitment!

I was productive today already, if not with fic writing - but wrote nearly 1k of nonfic, baked a bread (part of an experimental series with multiplied yeast), ironed (we're using cloth napkings and hankerchiefs which need ironing, and as I have to iron our masks nearly every day anyway I put in a bit more of my neverending pile *g* ) and spent nearly two hours learning about how to set up a bullet journal, and doing my first tentative spreads. I'm usually keeping track of everything digitally since I always leave phyiscal stuff behind somewhere and can't find it when I need it, so digital & syncing seemed the best idea. But recently I often thought I need to do something different about me generally, and using this system for awareness about myself, mindfulness, and to keept track of some things and habits sounded like a good idea. I'm not doing any of the artsy stuff with it, just very basic practical spreads to take note of things, without any frills. But already the setting-up felt surprisingly relaxing, so that's already a good thing.
Another part I plan to use this for, if I find this works for me, would be to do some more useful planning for writing, also as a visual reminder.

That sounds like a lovely and productive day! (Well, I'm not hugely into ironing, but sometimes it needs to be done! And ooh, remind me to come back to excitedly flail at you about bullet journals - I've been using one for some months now and I swear it's the main reason I get things done! And you definitely don't need to do the artsy stuff that some people are into - mine's all about just the basics, too.

ETA: And did I understand correctly that you were checking in for the 29th with this? Did you also write on the 28th?

Yes to both, although I might have forgotten to check in yesterday. Which day is it again today? LOL

Edit: my bad, I mixed up the dates of your entries, mainly because I'm not usually reporting in already on the evening of the day in question. *ggg* But the reslut is the same, I wrote on the 28th and 29th, and about 1k on both.

How cool that you're using bullet journals, too, and to such a good effect! :o) I knew them since a while, but only in the super artsy-cutesy way of some bloggers/vloggers where it looked like a creative way to replace Google calendar. *g* The stuff beyond the calendar is what's really interesting me, although I found it oddly soothing to draw my spreads, and do them by hand - just feels much nicer in a way I can't really describe.
